Have you had a good look at your panels lately?
Could they be distorted/unbalanced?

This is something I encourage all clients/riders to consider and learn to spot in their own equipment.
Distortion can happen for a number of reasons, some more sinister than others. In a wool flocked panel we can rectify imbalances and maintain even, balanced and SOFT panels (in most cases).

Can you spot the distortion in these foam panels? Can you imagine how that feels for the horse?
How does having unbalanced, hard and distorted panels impact the saddle fit? Is that saddle even suitable to be used?

These are all questions we should be asking ourselves and our chosen saddle fitter!

Why use a foundation pad?

I'm sure we've all heard the old fashioned "if your saddle fits, you don't need a pad" comment from time to time, to which my response would be to ask when did the saddle fit? Was it this morning, last week or 6 months ago?

Like our own bodies, our horses "shape" can vary greatly throughout the days, weeks and months. They're affected by diet, turnout, routine and most importantly, posture and exercise.

When fitted correctly with a foundation pad, we can work with the horse to build their "best back".
It also allows for us to work with the many fluctuations in size, shape, asymmetry, muscular development and weight that our horses transition through during the course of the year, without compromising the integrity of the saddle and panels

Foundation pads also allow for us to work with horse and rider asymmetry, it enables us to create an even and correct balance between the two without compromising the comfort of the horse and rider or the integrity of the saddle.

I’m excited to introduce myself to both new and existing clients and share more about my work and passion.

My name is Alana Coxhill (formerly Rothwell), and I am a human and equine sports therapist with nearly a decade of experience at Pennine Therapy Group. Alongside my work, I pursued a degree in Equine Science, deepening my understanding of horse health and performance.

Through years of working with horses, I recognized that many issues stem from improper equipment, lack of knowledge, and inadequate training. This realization led me to focus on expanding my expertise to better support both horses and their owners.

As part of this journey, I was incredibly fortunate to train with Jemma at LM Saddles, eventually becoming a proud member of Team LM. Here, I found a shared commitment to equine welfare, ensuring that every decision made is truly "for the good of the horse".

My mission moving forward:

LM Fitting Consultants

Make sure you use the real deal.

All LM Consultants are trained and approved by LM saddles, they must complete over 18 months of supervised fitting training, many assessments, case studies, biomechanics and flocking course to achieve this title.

To maintain their LM Consultant status they must abide by the LM Code of Conduct, and attend multiple CPD days per year. This is to maintain the high standards of knowledge and expertise our clients have come to know and love.
