Look out for signs of fatigue, loss of appetite, or a change in your cat’s behaviour.
If you spot any of these symptoms, seek advice from us as soon as possible!😸

Losing a pet can be one of the toughest life experiences 🌈
Everyone is different, but these strategies can help if you are struggling with the loss of a pet:
🕯️ Talking to a friend, family member, doctor, or Pet Bereavement Counsellor
🕯️ Memorialising your pet
🕯️ Writing down your thoughts
🕯️ Taking time to look after yourself
Got a puzzle feeder toy for your dog? AND you have a freezer? Well then…
May we suggest portioning some of your dogs wet food into said puzzle feeder, freeze that bad boy overnight and you’ll have a tasty cool dog treat!
If you only feed your dog dry food, don’t despair! You can soak their biscuits in water and then pop them in the puzzle feeder.
Have you tried this before? Got other cool treat ideas? We’d love to hear them below!

Tuna + Water + Freezer = 😻
Grab a tin of tuna in water (not brine or oil) and mash it up a little. Pop a little bit of water into the tuna.
Next, you’ll need to put SMALL cat sized dollops into an ice cube tray and leave in the freezer overnight.
A lovely cool treat for lovely cool cats! What summer treats do you make for your cat? 😎

Let's not forget sun protection for our pale skinned furry friends!
27th May is , reminding us of the importance of safeguarding pets, such as those with white or thin coats and pink skin, from harmful UV rays. Just like us, some pets can suffer from sun damage which may one day lead to skin cancer.
Ensure your pet stays safe in the sun by limiting access to direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day. If it will be tolerated and not licked off, apply pet-safe sunscreen to exposed areas. Also, provide shady cool spots outdoors.
Let's keep our pets happy, healthy, and sun-safe! ☀️🐾

Our veterinary practice was opened in 1987 by Gerald Valentine (having moved from his previous surgery in Heywood to the more spacious facilities here in Castleton). He was joined in 1993 by Simon Cogan and, 10 years later by Adam Deavin). In 2003, Gary Dybdall came on board, as 15-yeard old completing his work experience for school. In 2004, Gary worked for Valentine’s by cleaning kennels until 2005, when he left to do his training. He returned to us in May 2016 as a full-time qualified vet.
Together the partnership offers you over 60 years of veterinary experience with the emphasis on good communication and a caring attitude.
The practice deals with all aspects of small animal veterinary medicine and surgery at a well equipped, convenient site.
We have a large adjacent carpark for free easy parking so feel free to pop in and see us.
