🎓🐾 Intermediate One Graduation! 🐾🎓

What a brilliant way to finish another block of Intermediate One! 🥳

These dogs have worked hard over the past six weeks, building on their basics, improving their focus, learning to make good choices and, most importantly, becoming more confident in the real world.

From those first sessions where everything was very exciting… to seeing their focus, engagement and teamwork now — the progress has been fantastic! ❤️

A huge well done to every dog and their human. You should all be incredibly proud of how far you’ve come! 👏🐶

And remember… graduation doesn’t mean the training stops! 😉 There’s always another skill to learn, another distraction to master and another adventure to tackle.

Puppy Playschool is about giving your puppy the skills they need for real life — learning around distractions, building confidence, learning how to focus on you, exploring new experiences and developing those all-important life skills.

🐾 “Leave it” is SO much more than just a cue!

Today in our Progress Class, we’ve been working on impulse control and teaching our dogs to disengage from something when we ask them to.

And honestly? It’s one of those skills every dog should learn. 👇

Because out on walks, your dog might come across:
🍫 Food they shouldn’t eat
🗑️ Rubbish on the ground
🐦 Wildlife they want to chase
🐕 Something belonging to another dog
🧦 Or, of course… the random sock they’ve decided is their new favourite toy 😂

We can’t control everything our dogs will encounter — but we can teach them what to do when they come across it.

“Leave it” teaches your dog that they can pause, disengage and make a better choice rather than immediately following that impulse.

And the key? Don’t wait until you desperately need it!

Practise it regularly, reward the behaviour you want and gradually build up the distractions.

A reliable “leave it” can be incredibly useful in everyday life — and sometimes, it can help keep your dog safe. ❤️🐾

🐾 Not every puppy wants to be everyone’s best friend straight away… and that’s OK.

We often expect puppies to be bouncing around, desperate to say hello to every dog they see.

But the reality? Some puppies are a little more cautious. 🥹

And that doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with them.

In Puppy Playschool, we have a lovely mix of personalities. We’ve got the big, bold puppy who is ready to charge in and make friends… and we’ve got the shyer puppy who needs a little more space, a little more time and the chance to watch, process and decide when they’re ready.

As a trainer, my job isn’t to make that shy puppy “get over it.”

It’s to build their confidence without putting them in situations they’re not ready for.

So sometimes that means:
🐶 Watching another puppy from a comfortable distance
🐶 Having calm, positive interactions
🐶 Giving them space to process
🐶 Rewarding curiosity and brave choices
🐶 Letting friendships develop naturally

And the best part?

We get to watch them slowly become puppy pals. ❤️

The bold puppy learns that not every dog wants to play immediately.

The shy puppy learns that other dogs can be safe, predictable and positive.

And over time, you can see those little moments of confidence start to appear. 🥹🐾

Puppies don’t all develop confidence at the same speed — and they don’t need to.

Sometimes the best friendships are the ones we give time to grow. 🐶❤️

🐾 Today’s 121: Getting Comfortable Around a Walking Aid 🐾

Today we worked with a lovely Cocker Spaniel whose mum now has to use a walking aid when out and about. 🦮

Rather than waiting for him to encounter the walker on a busy walk and potentially become worried by it, we’re getting ahead of the situation and teaching him that the equipment is nothing to be afraid of.

During today’s private 121 session, we focused on building a positive association with the walking aid — starting with simply having it nearby and gradually introducing movement, all while pairing it with things he loves. ❤️

The goal isn’t to force him to "get used to it". It’s about giving him time, keeping him comfortable and helping him learn:

“That thing moving around Mum predicts good things!” 🥰

This is a great example of why dog training isn’t always about teaching a sit, stay or recall. Sometimes it’s about preparing our dogs for the real-life things they’ll encounter every day.

By starting slowly and setting them up for success, we can help make those experiences much easier for both dog and owner. 🐶💛

And then we went off to make some new memories… 🐾🌳

Two Rotties, a woodland full of smells and absolutely no shortage of things to investigate! 😂

They had the best time doing exactly what dogs should be able to do — sniffing, exploring, wandering, taking in their surroundings and enjoying being dogs.

And honestly, they were fantastic.

Sometimes you don't need anything complicated. Just good company, a beautiful place, plenty of sniffing and the freedom to enjoy the moment.

A pretty perfect way to spend the day. 🖤🤎

And those faces say it all! 😍

Something I’ve noticed as a dog trainer… 🤍🐾

When people come to me with their new dog, I often hear little snippets about the dog they had before.

“I had an old dog, but he passed away a few months ago.”

“We got him after losing our other dog.”

“She would have loved this…”

And honestly? I love hearing those stories.

Because getting a new dog doesn’t mean you stop talking about the one you lost.

Sometimes you just need someone to listen.

Tell me about the dog who came before.
Tell me the funny stories.
Tell me about their weird little habits.
Tell me the things they used to do that still make you laugh.
Tell me the memories you’re scared you might forget.

You don't have to stop talking about them just because they're no longer here. 🤍

And if you ever want to tell me about your previous dog when we're training your new one — I'm here. I'll listen.

So, let's remember them together…

Those puppy days are full of cute moments… and a LOT of “what on earth are you doing?!” 😂

The pulling.
The selective hearing.
The things they find on the pavement.
The sudden disappearance of their brain when you say “come”! 👀

But this is exactly the stage where good habits can really start to take shape.

Our Puppy Progress Class is for puppies aged 19 weeks–9 months, helping you build the skills that matter in everyday life!

Over six weeks, we’ll work on things like:

Our six-week Intermediate One course is all about building stronger communication, better focus and more reliable skills — while keeping training fun and rewarding.
