✨Training Recap Time!✨
Why do we love Leave It and Recall so much? Because these two cues are absolute game-changers. 🐾

🔹 Leave It – teaches your dog to resist temptation (whether it’s a sock, a sandwich, or something unsafe on the ground). It’s about safety and self-control.
🔹 Recall – the ultimate freedom cue! A strong recall means your pup comes back every time, no matter how exciting the distraction.

Together, these skills keep your dog safe, build trust, and open the door to more adventures together. 💛🐕

👉 Which of these are you working on most with your pup right now?

Last night’s session was all about building good habits early:

✅ The Drop Cue – Puppies explore the world mouth-first. Stones, rubbish, shoes… if they can grab it, they will! Teaching “Drop” keeps them safe and helps you avoid unplanned shoe shopping.

✅ The Stay Cue – Because sometimes you need your pup to wait a moment (and not photobomb your Zoom meeting). Practising “Stay” builds patience, focus, and a calmer companion.

👏 Well done to all our clever pups and their humans – you’re doing amazing!

My apologies, I've forgot to take a clear photo of Miss Luna.

Last week’s puppy homework focused on positive socialisation experiences during this crucial developmental stage. The socialisation window (roughly up to 18 weeks) is when puppies are most receptive to learning that new sights, sounds, people, and environments are safe and enjoyable.

Our owners took this to heart:

🐾 One puppy experienced the beach for the first time, feeling the sand and hearing the waves.
🐾 Another spent time in a different park.
🐾 One pup enjoyed a “day at the office,” encountering new people, noises, and smells. Then a doggy slumber party.

Every carefully planned outing helps create a confident, well-adjusted adult dog. Remember — quality, positive exposure now pays off for life.

Keep up the good work.

In today’s Puppy Playschoool, we tackled a big topic in the dog world – preventing resource guarding. Many puppies love to pick up things they find valuable (sometimes socks… sometimes the TV remote), and their first instinct can be to dash away with their treasure.

We worked on teaching our pups that when they have something special, sharing it can be just as rewarding as keeping it. Through fun, positive training, we showed them that handing over a prized possession doesn’t mean it disappears forever – sometimes it even means something better is coming their way!

If your puppy is under 19 weeks old and tends to run off with stolen goods rather than give them up, now’s the perfect time to work on it before it becomes a habit.

Our next Puppy Playschool class starts next week, and we still have a few spots left. Let’s get your pup on the path to confident, happy sharing. 🐶💛

Teach Your Dog to Settle – Your Sanity Will Thank You 🐾

A “settle” cue is like a chill button for your dog—perfect for cafés, vet visits, or just enjoying a cuppa without a tennis ball in your lap.

✅ Calmer home life
✅ Less stress (for both of you)
✅ Easier training & focus
✅ Handy in real-world situations

It’s not about dimming their spark—it’s about giving them the gift of relax on cue. Once they learn it, you’ll wonder how you lived without it.

Today’s Intermediate Two class was all about a little refresher on polite paws — practicing our ‘no jumping’ manners and perfecting our walking drills. The pups nailed it… mostly. 😉🐾

Ever had your pup suddenly act spooked by a bin they’ve passed 100 times? That could be a fear period—a totally normal phase in puppy development.

These periods usually pop up around 8–11 weeks and again during adolescence. Your pup’s more sensitive during this time, and how you respond matters.

💡 What helps?

✅ Calm, positive exposure to everyday things (bikes, bins, kids, sounds).

✅ Let them explore at their own pace—no pressure.

✅ Keep interactions short, happy, and full of praise.

Fear periods aren’t setbacks—they’re growth spurts for the brain. Support them right, and you’re laying the groundwork for a confident, resilient adult dog.

The “Leave it” cue is one of the most practical and important behaviours you can teach your dog. It’s a way to tell your dog, “That’s not for you — move on,” and it helps them develop impulse control, focus, and trust in your guidance.

Why is it so handy? Because dogs explore the world with their mouths, and not everything they find is safe or appropriate. Whether it’s a dropped piece of chocolate, a chicken bone on a footpath, a pill under the couch, or even another dog’s toy, “Leave it” can prevent unwanted behaviours — and in some cases, emergency vet visits.

When taught properly, this cue teaches dogs to pause, think, and make better choices, rather than simply reacting to temptation. It’s not about scolding — it’s about giving them the skills to succeed in a human world.

The best part? A well-trained “Leave it” transfers to all kinds of situations, from polite manners at home to safety out on walks. It empowers your dog to stay safe, and gives you peace of mind — one “Leave it” at a time.

These two crack me up every single time they come to training.
They’re big, strong dogs—but absolute goofballs at heart. You honestly wouldn’t believe how silly they are unless you saw it for yourself.

They prance around like oversized puppies, making every command look like a comedy skit. “Stay?” Never heard of her. 😄

And you know what? That’s the best part. Their goofiness shows just how comfortable, safe, and happy they feel in training—and that’s a huge win in our book. 💛
