Are you getting a New Puppy?
As promised, a few weeks ago, here are some helpful tips to get you started.
The secret to a well-behaved dog isn’t complicated — it’s simple: Your dog should want to be with you. That’s the foundation everything else is built on.
Don’t Rely on “Socialising” Alone
A common mistake is thinking a puppy needs to spend lots of time with other dogs and people straight away. Yes, exposure matters — but not at the expense of your relationship.
If your puppy finds other dogs more exciting than you, you’ve already made things harder.
Instead:
Teach your dog that you are the most rewarding thing in its world.
Build Engagement Early
Start with simple, fun interactions that make your puppy naturally choose you.
Move away and encourage your pup to follow you.
Play short, engaging games together.
Keep sessions positive and brief.
You want your dog thinking:
“Where you go, I want to go.”
Stop Chasing Your Dog.
If you’re constantly running after your puppy, you’re teaching it the wrong lesson.
Flip it around.
Walk or jog away from your pup.
Let it come to you.
Reward that choice with attention or play.
This builds natural recall without forcing it.
Use Simple Games to Reinforce Focus.
One easy but powerful exercise:
Hide from your puppy (safely).
Step out of sight briefly.
Let them look for you.
Reward them when they find you.
This encourages awareness and keeps their attention on you.
Start Lead Work Early.
Don’t wait until your dog is bigger and harder to manage.

Teach from the start that:
Walking beside you is normal.
Keep it relaxed and consistent — no pulling, no battles.
Give Your Puppy a Space of Its Own.
A crate can be a really useful tool when used properly.
It should be: A calm, safe space, somewhere the dog can relax and not used as punishment, consider it as the dogs area. This helps with routine, boundaries, and settling.
Final Thought
You don’t need complicated methods.
If your dog enjoys being with you and pays attention to you, training becomes much easier.
Get that part right early — and everything else follows.

A quick update for our clients 👇🐾
Demand for my training has grown massively and I am fully booked until the end of May, but there are still a few sessions left for June.
As always, I am committed to giving every dog and owner the time, attention to achieve the results required, but unfortunately my session prices will be increasing from the 6th of April 2026.
This allows me to continue delivering high-quality, tailored training that actually works — whether that’s building solid obedience, fixing problem behaviours, or developing reliable gundogs.
💥 The good news: you can still lock in current prices by booking before 06.04.2026.
If you’ve been thinking about getting started or booking more sessions, now’s the time.
I am incredibly grateful for all the support — and am keen to keep helping you and your dog/s succeed.
Drop me a message or give me a call to get booked in.

Thank you and a warm welcome to all my new followers. I see a lot of posts on other FB pages regarding dogs walking to heel. Can I draw your attention to the accompanying profile picture, which was taken before we relocated to Perthshire. Four dogs, three springers from my own pack and a clients dog at a local shoot I used to give the novice dog some experience. The picture shows the clients dog on a lead walking to the next drive. My own dogs at heel. The picture was taken by one of the "guns" (I think) and sent to me. One lead but four dogs at heel .. teaching the clients dog where it should be: at your calf. Heel is a place not a pace!
Hopefully some welcome news too, I will be linking this page with its sister website The Country Sports Store once the renovations to the store are completed at the end of March. I will be posting special offers for dog training equipment and country wear here on this FB page. No where else, so keep following! 😁
