Some good news and some bad news!

Possibly, due to having the responsibility of the administration of my own website The Country Sports Store, I have become slightly more "techie" than I would normally want to be. This year, before our vacation, I decided I would take messages and emails whilst away and book sessions in as they were asked for. Using the phone diary, I no longer needed to sift through all the enquiries when I got home. This is the good news: I have managed to accommodate all serious enquiries.
The bad news: I have, at the time of writing this, only a few sessions left in May and bookings after that are for the middle of June. The break has also allowed me to assess the overall situation.
I have repeatedly had dog owners book with me who have spent a fortune on positive only, force free training. The reason that they then booked here is that the above (P.O.& F.F) seldom works.
It would appear having had conversations with these owners that positive only training really means a lot of food treats and don't ever raise your voice. Positive reinforcement here at Working Canines means giving the dog exactly what it wants but under control, your control. Both owners and dogs love it! It is you, the dog owner, I will be training which includes your mind set.
Free advice.
1. Go and see the trainers dogs or at least watch video footage.
2. Stop checking prices and look at testimonials
3. Treat your dog how it wants to be treated. The clues are there. If its a hunting breed it will want to hunt. You won't bribe or distract it with food! You can control it though using my regime!
4. We take on most breeds and also deal with aggression problems leading to court appearances due to behaviour.
5. Fur baby owners are welcome however those who are not willing to participate in the easy training regime will not be accommodated. Been there tried that, it does not work. I have videos of dogs that have been to these P.O.& F.F trainers which I am happy to share one to one. They are not pretty.
6. If you cant control the dog at your feet, how can you expect to control it further afield.
7. First come, first served. 😁

We are no different to most dog owners, we too have worries when going on holiday regarding the welfare of our dogs. If you have used my services before you may be aware that Nikki, who runs Riley's Retreat is my daughter, however, my dogs are used to kennels and usually I would not have entertained "house sitting" but, due to the amount of time we were out the country this was a far better option. My three springers have been so well looked after that I fear they may have been "spoiled" 🤣 . I have no doubt I will have to "re-train" them once home but the peace of mind more than compensates for that! Thanks for putting up with the wild children and apologies for the "car park movers" bring stones in to your house x

A big thank you to Maddie the grand daughter of Derek and Shirley who travelled up from Dalbeattie for help with their dog. Maddie drew this for me and Derek framed the picture as a thank you for training their "wild" working cocker. I am sure you will agree she is a very talented 10 year old little girl.

Yes I have working dogs. Its what they love. They are dogs not fur babies. The younger ones are kenneled. Its healthier for them to be in an insulated area with plenty fresh air. Acclimatised. This is my old girl who is nearly 13 years old.. up till last season she still did a shift at the shoots. I will see what this year brings as she is a bit deaf now. She is also enjoying retirement.

Our Story

We are based at our four star B&B property known as Airds Farm B&B. We have approximately 14 acres of woodland and grassland which has become a first class, established dog training area. The training is available on both a national & local scale. Various residential options, including our on site self catering cottage are available. The popular local one to one courses are available by appointment.

Our training area is home to rabbit, game birds and the occasional deer however, we also have domesticated ducks, hens and five male sheep. The rams are there to help stock train the dogs. Your dog will be introduced to the livestock under control once your dog has been trained to have good recall and is stock steadied in the poultry area.
