πŸ’› Blind Trails πŸ’›

In Trail Hunt International the handlers sometimes lay their own trails and other times we have someone else lay the trail so the handlers don't know where the trail has been laid.

Here's Team Maverick completing their blind trail this morning. This was a junction where there was a decision to turn right or left (left was correct).

I like to put the handlers observation of their own dogs to the test, so here I am just checking in with the handler on what she's receiving back from her dog.

Absolutely lovely teamwork πŸ₯°

I really enjoyed this morning's Trail Hunt International Club over at Beacon Fell πŸ’›

Joined by Teams Marley, Max and Maverick we covered surface transitions, junctions and each team completed a blind trail (where the handler doesn't know where their pod is).

Busy environment but the dogs all coped brilliantly, which is huge credit to their handlers and the immense amount of work they put in πŸ™Œ

Great session team, well done πŸ‘

Today's Trail Hunt International Skill Up Progression Workshop was all about building confidence & independence on the trail.

We covered a number of exercises where the handlers didn't just follow behind their dogs, but did something completely different such as standing still, walking backwards or out to the side!

And then we moved on to a series of exercises where the dog had to show commitment to the odour trail by starting facing in different direction from where the trail had been laid.

This made both our teams really think today. Subtle changes in the set up may appear simple to us humans but for the dogs, it really does make a difference. Switching up the context helps us generalise the ask and supports the dogs ability to problem solve and make decisions without always relying on their handler.

Great session, brilliant learning by both teams today!

Well done guys πŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

🚨Blooper Alert🚨

I thought sitting on the floor to get some close to the ground footage would be a good idea today! πŸ€”

Both Max & Paddy decided it was an invitation to come say "Hi' πŸ˜†

Good start for their "Person on the trail" training though πŸ«£πŸ˜‚

Our Paddy was super cute this morning! There was clearly something way more enticing on the ground than his pod odour so he had to stop to have a good old roll in it! πŸ˜†

He did then go on to complete his trail 😁

Love ya Paddy πŸ₯°

Here's another testimonial from one of my fabulous teams who participate in Trail Hunt International πŸ’›

I'm always very humbled when I read the lovely things that are written about the courses and sessions I deliver, but it truly does mean the world to me!

I do what I do for the dogs....
The immense sense of pride and satisfaction I get from watching a dog and handler team just "get it" when they complete a trail together is priceless πŸ’›

Nose work for dogs is a game changer and I'd love to get all dog owners / guardians involved! πŸ™Œ

Come and join our great little community at our June foundations course...
