Dogs and Cats are often thought as arch enemies..... However, sometimes they have been known to be best of buddies. Do any of you have a dog and a cat who are pals? or do they just cohabitate with each other?

🎉🐾 BREAKING NEWS: The Purr-suit of Power Continues! 🐾🎉

Today, we celebrate Cat World Domination Day - a reminder that our whiskered overlords already rule our homes, our hearts, and let’s be honest… our entire schedules.
😼 Whether they’re knocking things off shelves or commandeering laptops as thrones, their reign is unquestioned.

Bow to the fluff. Offer the treats. Resistance is futile.

We are getting quite few phone calls regarding baby/fledgling birds found in peoples gardens.

Please remember give the birds so space and to look and not touch. Often youngsters will become tired and will take a rest on the floor. The Fledglings parents will likely be feeding the baby from the ground. If you interfere at this time, although with the best of intentions, you will cause the parents to abandon their young.

If you have witnessed the bird get harmed for e.g. by a cat or concerned it is injured, a health check can be preformed by a vet. However, we are not able to rehabilitate as we do not have the appropriate facilities for a bird to have a successful outcome. Seeking a wildlife charity who are experienced with the process is the best option for the bird. It is advisable to do this prior to touching the bird.

It's nearly summer and we are having some lovely weather at the moment. Here are a few ways you can help your dog from over heating whilst going for a walk-

* Walk your dog either early in the morning before it becomes to hot, or in the evening once the day has cooled down. Avoid the middle of the day when its at its hottest.

* Choose a walk which provides shade.

*Bring water with you - keeping your dog hydrated will help maintain their temperature. However, do not let them water load, as this can result in vomitting and further issues.

*Choose a venue with natural water especially if they enjoy as swim!

* Precool your car - Dont have your dog start their walk already hot.

* Remember they can burn their paws on the pavement and other materials such as artificial grass. Avoid walking on pavements where possible; especially for long periods on time. A rule to remember- if you cannot keep the back of your hand flat on the pavement for more then 7 seconds, then it's too hot for your dog to walk on. Stick to grass/woodland areas.

*Instead of doing one big walk, break it in half and do two shorter walks.

Cats love to have a bask in the sun!

Is there anything we can do to help keep them cool in hot weather?

Having a fresh water source whether that be from a water fountain or regularly changing their water can help keep them cool.

Ensuring they have a shaded area they can go to can also help.

Cats tend to do their own thing and will tend to sleep alot during the hotest time of the day.

Some cats like playing with water and water games can be fun. However, not all so please don't be too forceful, your cat may have some words with you!

For more help please contact the practice.
