โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Ž Harryโ€™s got the right ideaโ€ฆ shades on, chilling out, and staying cool in this heat! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ•ถ๏ธ

While we might love the sunshine, hot weather can be really dangerous for our dogs. Even a short walk or too much play can quickly lead to overheating.

Here are some simple ways to help keep your dogs safe and comfortable during warmer days:
๐Ÿพ Walk early morning or later in the evening
๐Ÿ’ง Always provide fresh, cool water
๐ŸงŠ Try frozen treats, lick mats, or stuffed KONGs
๐ŸŒณ Stick to shaded areas and avoid hot pavements
๐Ÿก Focus on mental enrichment indoors instead of physical exercise
๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ Cooling mats, paddling pools, and damp towels can help regulate temperature
๐Ÿšซ Never leave dogs in cars โ€” even for โ€œjust a minuteโ€

Remember, enrichment doesnโ€™t stop just because itโ€™s hot! Sniffing games, training sessions, puzzle feeders, and calm indoor activities are fantastic ways to keep your dog mentally stimulated without risking heat exhaustion ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ’›

Harry definitely approves of the โ€œstay cool and relaxโ€ approach ๐Ÿ˜Žโ˜€๏ธ

โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿพ Hot weather doesnโ€™t just mean shorter walks. It means changing how we meet our dogsโ€™ needs. ๐Ÿพโ˜€๏ธ

As temperatures rise, itโ€™s important to remember that our dogs canโ€™t regulate heat the same way we do. Even temperatures that feel manageable to us can quickly become uncomfortable and potentially dangerous for them.

Signs your dog may be struggling with the heat can include:
๐Ÿถ Excessive panting
๐Ÿถ Slowing down or reluctance to move
๐Ÿถ Seeking shade or cool surfaces
๐Ÿถ Drooling more than usual
๐Ÿถ Appearing unsettled, lethargic, or distressed

But reducing exercise doesnโ€™t mean reducing enrichment ๐Ÿ’›

During warmer days, focus on mental stimulation and low-energy activities instead of long walks or high-impact exercise:
๐Ÿง  Scatter feeding in the garden or indoors
๐Ÿง  Snuffle mats and scent work games
๐Ÿง  Frozen enrichment (lick mats, stuffed Kongs, frozen-safe treats)
๐Ÿง  Training sessions for calm behaviours and trick work
๐Ÿง  Puzzle feeders and problem-solving activities
๐Ÿง  Find-it games around the house
๐Ÿง  Gentle enrichment walks in shaded areas during cooler times of day

Remember mental enrichment can be just as tiring as physical exercise and helps support emotional wellbeing too.

Ways to help regulate your dog during warmer weather:
๐Ÿ’ง Provide access to fresh water at all times
โ„๏ธ Offer cooling mats or cool resting areas (if your dog chooses to use them)
๐ŸŒณ Encourage rest and shade
โฐ Walk early morning or later evening when temperatures reduce
๐Ÿšซ Avoid hot pavements and intense activity

Your dog doesnโ€™t need to โ€œburn energyโ€ every day through physical exercise, sometimes the kindest thing we can do is slow down and work with what their body needs.

Stay safe and enjoy some slower, enrichment-filled summer days โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿพ

For those who may not have seen much of me recently, I thought Iโ€™d reintroduce myself properly ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿพ

Iโ€™m Kirsty the founder of Canine Capabilities. I am a qualified & accredited animal behaviourist, chaos coordinator, and a proud mum to three amazing children โค๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿพ

Nearly 9 years ago, I built Canine Capabilities from the ground up with nothing but passion, determination, and a genuine love for dogs and the people who love them. What started as a dream quickly became something much bigger, a business built around compassion, professionalism, education, client support, and above all, dog welfare. ๐Ÿ™Œ

Over the years, Iโ€™ve dedicated myself to continuously learning, developing my qualifications, building experience, and helping dogs that may not always fit neatly into the โ€œeasyโ€ category. Behaviour modification, nervous and reactive dogs, confidence-building work, puppy development, social skills, mentorship, and supporting guardians through difficult journeys have all become huge parts of my career and something I care deeply about. ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿพ

But behind every successful business is an incredible support system, and I truly wouldnโ€™t be where I am today without my husband, Matthew โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

Matthew has supported every long day, every emotional case, every muddy boot, every business idea, and every moment where I doubted myself. Heโ€™s been my sounding board, my encourager, and the steady support behind the scenes while Iโ€™ve continued to grow both personally and professionally. ๐Ÿซ‚๐Ÿพ

And then thereโ€™s my three beautiful children, Liam, Joel, and Emily ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ‘ถ

Theyโ€™ve grown up alongside this business and watched their mum work hard, care deeply, advocate for dogs, support families, and build something from pure passion. Theyโ€™ve joined me at work, met the dogs, celebrated the wins, and seen firsthand what dedication and compassion look like. One of the things Iโ€™m most proud of is that my children get to see their mum thrive doing something she genuinely loves. ๐Ÿฆธโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿพ

Running a business while raising a family isn't always easy. There are early mornings, late nights, sacrifices, challenges, emotional moments, and a lot of perseverance. But every step is worth it.

Supporting both dogs and their guardians through those journeys is one of the greatest privileges of what I do. ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿพ

Almost a decade later, Iโ€™m still here, still learning, still growing, still passionate, and still incredibly grateful to every single client, supporter, friend, and family member who has been part of this journey. ๐Ÿ’ชโœจ๏ธ

Thank you for supporting not just a business, but a dream that became a family life ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’–
