To save panic….🌹🌹

We are aware of the posts circulating regarding a dog that very sadly died after visiting a tulip festival.

We want to make it very clear that, despite what is circulating in the press and on social media, this dog did not die as a result of tulip poisoning.

As the UK’s only animal poison centre in the UK, we have managed over 1600 cases regarding tulips. Based on this evidence and our research, we can reassure the public that the clinical signs described in this case are not consistent with tulip toxicity. While tulips may cause gastrointestinal upset if ingested, severe cases are very uncommon. Other potential causes should be considered in this case.

I’m at in Bretton today helping my old team out 😊 It’s been so lovely to catch up with friends and colleagues. Medivet are one of our wonderful partner practices. Lead Vet, Pedro Subtil, has a special interest in orthopaedic surgery and is a dab hand at cardiology. It’s been a busy morning of fighting cats with wounds and dogs with sore bottoms 🙈 Hopefully Mr Vet Van will have a well earnt Aperol spritz ready for me to enjoy in the sun for when I get home later!!

💕🫶🏼💕

If you've recently suffered a pet loss, you may be finding life hard. When we lose a human companion, society gives us time and space to grieve, but it can be harder to find space to grieve when you are mourning a pet.

The reality is that pet bereavement can be as devastating as losing a human friend or family member. Research from John Archer in 1996 (J Archer et al. Br J Psychol. 1994 May) found that pet carers often derive more satisfaction from their relationships with their pets than with humans because of the presence of unconditional love.

Sadly, it isn't always easy to get time off work when a pet dies and you may feel that your friends and family don't understand the extent of your grief.

At this time, self care is so important to help you navigate the day to day world and the emotion you are experiencing. We never move on from such a profound loss, but somehow we manage to move forward 💕

Remember that grief is not linear - there is no timeline to it. Be kind to yourself 💕

I’m off to Wansford and Stamford today! Needles ✅ Syringes ✅ And a full medication re-stock. Did you know that the VMD (Veterinary Medicines Directorate) regulates all stockists of veterinary medicines? From online pharmacies to hospitals to mobile clinics such as ours. We have to follow strict temperature and stock controls to ensure medications are stored appropriately and dispensed in optimum condition. Clinics are regularly inspected and we have to document how we monitor and the frequency with which we do so. This means packing the van every morning and unpacking every night 😅

Take a bow The lovely Rachel and her team are fast turning this once run down practice on Empingham Road in Stamford into a truly modern welcoming vision. Rachel is a fantastic medic and surgeon and welcomes Vet Van clients throughout the week for procedure referrals. Elle also has the pleasure of being based here on Thursday afternoons to allow for continuity of care for our clients. She also helps Rachel manage their growing client list and operates and consults here for Welland Valley Clients as well as her own. It’s a truly wonderful symbiotic relationship and fantastic example of
