Today we had the pleasure of welcoming Courtney from Cordial Canines to Well Dog Hydrotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre for a fantastic Continuing Professional Development session.

A huge thank you to Courtney for giving up his time to share his knowledge, experience, and expertise with both our team and clients. It was incredibly valuable to learn more about recognising signs of aggression, understanding canine behaviour, and how to safely and appropriately handle a variety of situations that may arise.

It was also wonderful to see first-hand the results of Courtney’s dedication and professionalism through the dogs he works with. The standard of training, commitment, and ongoing support he provides is a real credit to his profession.

Both staff and clients were extremely appreciative of the information shared today, and everyone came away with practical knowledge and greater confidence.

We are incredibly fortunate to work alongside professionals who are so passionate about improving canine welfare and education. Thank you again, Courtney, for an informative, engaging, and enjoyable afternoon. We look forward to working together again in the future.

🐾 Loui is proof that hydrotherapy can be so much more than just exercise. 🐾

We absolutely love seeing how hydrotherapy helps Loui manage the discomfort associated with his hip dysplasia while keeping him strong, fit and mobile.

The warm water provides a controlled, safe environment where he can exercise without placing excessive stress on his joints. It allows him to build and maintain muscle strength, improve joint mobility, support cardiovascular fitness and enjoy plenty of freedom of movement that can be difficult to achieve on land.

Most importantly, Loui genuinely enjoys his sessions! Watching him move confidently in the water and seeing the benefits carry over into everyday life is exactly why we love what we do.

Consistency is key when managing conditions such as hip dysplasia, and Loui is showing just how valuable regular hydrotherapy can be in helping dogs stay active, comfortable and doing the things they love for longer. ❤️🐶

Recovery Takes Time… and Consistency Matters 🐾

One of the biggest mistakes we see in rehabilitation is stopping too early because a dog starts to look better after 4–6 sessions.

Yes… you may start seeing improvements in movement, comfort, stamina or confidence by this stage BUT this is often just the beginning of the body responding positively to structured rehabilitation.

After all… we don’t expect ourselves to:
• lose weight
• build muscle
• improve stamina
And maintain all of this overnight.

We know fitness, strength and recovery take consistency, patience and repetition.
It’s a marathon not a sprint. 🐾

The exact same applies to our dogs.

😐Muscle takes time to build.
😐Joints take time to become more stable.
😐Compensation patterns take time to correct.

In many dogs, meaningful strength and stability changes can take 8–12 weeks or longer depending on the condition, age, muscle loss and underlying weakness.

Stopping rehabilitation as soon as your dog improves can sometimes mean:
• muscles weaken again
• instability returns
• recovery slows
• slips in the water reappear
• stamina drops back off

The improvements we begin to see need to be worked upon, strengthened and maintained carefully not rushed ahead with longer walks or sudden increases in activity.

If we want to get the best out of our rehab rehabilitation consistency has to be applied.

Slow, steady, structured progress almost always gives the best long-term outcome. 💚

🐾 Is your dog lame?
Now relying on anti-inflammatories?
Still slowly losing mobility, strength and muscle?

Hydrotherapy can help support:
✔ Mobility
✔ Muscle strength
✔ Joint movement
✔ Weight control
✔ Confidence and comfort
✔ Recovery from injury or surgery

The warm water allows controlled exercise with reduced impact on painful joints, helping dogs move more freely while building strength safely.

At Well Dog Hydrotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre we regularly work with:
• Arthritis
• Cruciate injuries
• Hip & elbow dysplasia
• Spinal conditions
• Post-operative rehabilitation
• General weakness and muscle loss

Sometimes it’s not about “fixing” everything overnight…
It’s about helping them stay comfortable, stronger, happier and active for as long as possible 🐶💚
