In the hush of the battered field,
Where war’s dark echoes lie concealed,
A soldier kneels by his fallen friend,
Whose faithful heart beats to its end.
Through smoke and cries, through searing pain,
He feels the life slip from the vein,
And in that fleeting, fragile breath,
He faces love entwined with death.
Their bond once forged through flame and storm,
Now broken in this shattered form.
Yet in his gaze, no fear, no dread—
Just sorrow for the life that bled.
He strokes its mane, his whispered prayer,
A tear falls softly through the air;
And as the silence claims the sky,
They rest as one—no last goodbye.
