Meet Fred!

Fred recently had a little accident when the piece of plastic he was having a little chew on accidentally slipped down his throat. This unfortunately meant he kept being sick and ended up with a visit to see Emma the vet.

An X-ray confirmed the suspicion that Fred had eaten something he shouldn’t have and he had surgery to remove the offending object.

Being the superstar he is, Fred bounced back into the surgery two days later for a post-op check, still full of excitement and with kisses for anyone who got close enough! 🥰

Now fully recovered we’re waiting to see if he’s learnt his lesson…….

🐾 What are the chances? 🐾

Driving into work this morning I heard on the radio that as well as World Wildlife Day today, it’s also National If Pets had Thumbs Day! I thought this was odd enough but imagine my surprise when I met my first patient of the day - a lovely cat with a “thumb” on each foot!

This begs the question- what would your pet get up to if they had opposable thumbs?! 🤣

Edit - here is the lovely Zelah at home 🥰

🐾 Happy Walk your Dog Day! 🐾

Going out and about is really important for your dog’s general health and fitness as well as providing mental stimulation. It’s just as important as they get older to help keep joints mobile. Exercise has even been shown to reduce the development of ‘doggie dementia’.

This is Duke having fun on his favourite walk on the beach. Share your pics of your dog in their happy place! 😍

🐈‍⬛ February is Neutering Awareness Month🐕

This is to help raise awareness and educate pet owners about the positive impact of spaying and castrating pets. This surgical procedure provides numerous health and behavioral benefits to animals as well as managing the pet population.

There are many reasons why neutering is a good idea and also some why it isn’t right for all - we will happily discuss individual cases with you to help you decide.

Keep an eye on our page for more information and to see what happened when Amanda’s dog Humphrey came in for his ‘procedure’!

🐾 Cute kitten alert! 🐾

What better way to brighten up a grey day than getting to play with these two!

Peaches and Freddie were both very brave for their first vaccinations this afternoon, (although not so cooperative for their photo-shoot!)

Interpreting your pet's body language isn't always easy! 🐱🐶

In dogs, for example, a wagging tail is not always an indication of happiness. They could also be angry or agitated...

Which is why context matters!

Ask yourself:

🏠 Is your pet in a familiar or unfamiliar environment?
🐶 Is your pet among friends or strangers?
🐱 Are there other animals around that could influence their behaviour?
😲 How does your pet normally react?
🏥 Is your pet unwell?

Has your dog recently started acting different, or out of character?
This can be a sign of illness.

Today Emma and Annabel have been inspiring the next generation of veterinary professionals!

They have been at Cape Cornwall School in support of their Careers Fair. Both were impressed with the students suturing skills and animal knowledge.

We are looking forward to some joining the profession in the future. 🎓

🎃🐾 Halloween Alert! 🐾🎃

Keep your furry friends safe this spooky season! Beware of these Halloween treats that are poisonous to dogs: chocolate, sweets, caramel apples, macadamia nuts, chocolate raisins, and sweet wrappers🚫🍬

Even small amounts can be dangerous, so make sure to keep these treats out of reach. If your dog has eaten any of these, take your pet straight to the vet. Opt for pet-friendly snacks instead and ensure your pup has a howling good time!

Stay vigilant and enjoy a fun, safe Halloween with your pets! 🐶❤️👻
