Born on this day in the early morning to your stunningly, beautiful Mum Sophia who had been rescued at the 11th hour, despite being heavily pregnant, she was heading to an unthinkable place.
A precious gift was born and such a handsome boy you have become. A real gentleman to his Mum and his bonded friend Angelina ❤❤❤

A hot one yesterday another hot one today 🥵

The donkeys are ok with this weather, being native to arid lands, we do have plenty of barns, shelters and shady trees.
However, the Twilights are not so adept at regulating their body temperatures, their time outside is monitored closely, we're all obsessed with the weather forecast, so the Twilights may stay out for a few evenings so they can take advantage of cooler evenings.

It's Silver today showing us he really likes the warm sunshine, and just look at his gorgeous eyelashes ❤❤❤

Enjoy the start to your weekend everyone, take great care in this heat, and carefully keep a vigil on all our animal friends and family, perhaps put some water out in the garden for wildlife too 🙏

A very warm, wall to wall sunshine day yesterday, looks like more of the same today ☀️☀️☀️ with temperatures a bit higher 23/24 degrees, thankfully for the donkeys (and the team) certainly not the scorching temperatures in so many other places 🙏

Buttons today ❤ with his soil covered muzzle ☺ nice to see him standing on terra firma, Buttons is a bit of a mountain climber and thinks nothing of grazing tasty morsels on the top of the dry stone walls!! Leaving us opened mouthed and holding our breath while we attempt to coax him down! 🙈

The sun is back!! 🌤

Fortunately we have not had the extreme temperatures endured by much of the UK, it's been comfortable for animals and people....

What some of the poor donkeys get plagued with are biting flies on their legs, some more than others. This is Lavender Lady Iris ❤ yesterday morning sporting her very fetching rugby socks which help to keep the bites at bay. The flies target certain donkeys, we can only assume it is to do with different types of blood.

Donkeys have their own unique blood group system. While horses have 14 identified red cell antigens, donkeys have three specific to their species: B, M, and N. All donkeys possess the "donkey factor" RBC antigen which is specific to just donkeys, not horses.

Do you think the flies who feast on some donkey legs know this and have a preferred blood type? 🤔

Another new week already! 🙈

We have Juliet for your Monday morning, she almost looks like a smaller, grey Poitou 🥰 she is very beautiful and is still holding onto that lovely long coat that ripples in the wind ☺️

Juliet has come such a long way in confidence and condition since her arrival at Flicka, a very thin youngster who didn't have the strength to stand up for very long and now look she spends her days with her best friends Lo**ta, (especially Lo**ta 😉)Hettie & Rosebud❤❤❤❤ the girls do love to play, especially in the early evenings.

It's quite incredible to think that this group photo was taken just 10 days ago and here they all are, Lottie, Olly, Pansy, Papillon, Pearl & Freddie, still wearing much of their winter coats! ❤💕❤

Today the same donkeys look totally different, with sleek, glossy summer coats (as you can see from yesterday's photo of Pearl) which they will wear for about four/six weeks when the velvety thickness starts to grow back 🥰

Donkeys are definitely icons of fashion 😅

Our grand old gentleman Harry ❤

Harry was an amazing ambassador for Flicka when he visited care homes and hospices, always gentle and kind 💕 when going into a bedroom to brighten someone's day, he would go up in lifts (where he admired himself in the mirror) through corridors and into lounges, he loved his outings and made some very special memories for so many.

Harry has been retired for a few years now, he loves his bedroom slippers and pipe (and food) 😅 everyone loves Harry 🥰

A very handsome Robbie soaking up yesterday's sunshine 🌤🌤

Robbie, part of the Bachelor Boys, loves playing tag around the paddock with his friends❤❤ Freddy, Little Bear, Benji and Ned.
Robbie was, unbelievably, abandoned on private land, when considered too old to be of use for riding.....
