‼️ USING PERFUMES & COLOGNES ‼️
❗️IMPORTANT INFO PLEASE READ ❗️
We had an unfortunate incident in the salon on Tuesday, we were grooming a dog and we noticed that her breathing was unusual
Her breathing was more laboured and she was rasping
Therefore we contacted her owner and advised that the dog was taken to the vets immediately
At first the vet diagnosed a collapsed trachea with the dog being in a critical condition, so the dog was kept in overnight for further tests and investigation
We did notice when the dog arrived in the salon that the dog did smell very strongly of human perfume and we advised the owner about this when the dog was collected
After further tests and investigation, the vet concluded that the issue was with the dog being sprayed with human perfume. The dog had an allergic reaction to the perfume and therefore went into anaphylactic shock
Thankfully the dog has responded to veterinary treatment and is well on the road to recovery ❤️🩹
Here are the reasons to Avoid Human Perfume on Dogs;
Toxic Ingredients:
Human perfumes often contain chemicals like alcohol, parabens, and phthalates, which can be toxic to dogs if they lick them off their fur
Skin Irritation & Allergies:
Dogs have sensitive skin, and the harsh chemicals in human perfumes can cause irritation, dryness, itching, and allergic reactions
Overpowering Scents:
A dog's sense of smell is significantly stronger than a human's, so a scent that seems mild to you can be overwhelming and distressing to your dog
Respiratory Problems:
Inhaling strong fragrances can lead to respiratory distress, especially in dogs with pre-existing conditions like asthma
Ingestion Risks:
Dogs may lick themselves, ingesting the perfume and absorbing toxins through their skin, leading to symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, or even more severe internal issues
Disruption of Natural Scent:
A dog's natural scent is important for communication and bonding with their owner. A heavy perfume can mask this scent, confusing or even annoying the dog
The same goes for shampoos, always use dog shampoo as this does not disturb the PH balance in the skin or have any strong scents or harmful chemicals
