It's so hard to keep anywhere cool without Aircon πŸ˜”

I will be doing some fundraising soon to raise money for the air conditioning and if you'd like to donate in anyway , it would be very much appreciated.

Something that the hoggies like are these cool pads. Usually £9.99 each , these are a discounted pack of 2 at £15.44. The littlies will have these soon so if youd like to help keep them cool , these can be purchased via our Amazon List 😊

2 Hedgehogs.... 1 Day .... 0 survived 😭

And it really got me, I just sat and cried 😭

A large female brought to me from a neighbour after being found under a tree. Lots of flystrike around the face and base of the skirt as it had been in a curled position. On examination she had passed away . I found puncture wounds and lots of animal hair so she was obviously attacked by something. In addition to all that she 'ballooned'. She would have been in so much pain 😭 I also believe her ni***es had milk so there could be some babies out there missing their mummy 😭

Other was a little lady I collected from a Nursery in Norwich. Weighing only 95g and with lots of flystrike and maggots! I began triage in the car using my emergency kit , there was no time to wait with maggots involved. They just kept appearing! And the trouble with flystrike and maggots is they're in all the little places that are hidden and 'inner' like ears and 'private' parts. Poor little lady couldn't keep still which is no surprise with all that going on. When i removed the last few maggots i held her in my cupped hand as she fell asleep. I created a cupped hand with little blankets and I left her to sleep in an incubator. Next time I checked her she had gone 😭

Both lives ended way too soon but at least they are now pain free.

I have put their pictures on this post because some people don't know what flystrike is or what it looks like. I believe in sharing knowledge to help each other learn so we can save these beautiful animals (and other others) .

**Flystrike is fly eggs that hatch into maggots that will eat flesh ! The eggs are usually in little bundles and will hatch quicker with heat . There is no quick way to remove them and often removed with tweezers or mascara wands (clean unused ones lol) **

Another little one in ... Meet Jay πŸ₯°

I responded to a call from another vet and collected this lovely young man weighing only 165g.

Jay spent some time in an incubator and was given fluids. After a few days he was transferred to a pod and he now weighs 202g.

Poo samples had been clear until yesterday when he passed a Thorny Headed Worm! (Yes it sounds as awful as it is) He has started his treatment and will keep you updated on his progress .

Incredibly proud and thankful to share with you all that your kind donations along with a grant from The Belforte Foundation, has enabled the purchase of these fantastic custom pods from Plaztek!

They are 'hutch' style and have a top to bottom divided off bedroom area. This means I can clean the hedgehogs without disturbing them (if needed) 😁

The bedroom area has enough space for a heat pad at the back and a cool pad at the front , meaning a hog can choose where it feels most comfortable.

The left and middle pods have a 'hatch' that can be left open to make a larger pod if needed. (This is why the bedroom area is on the other side)

I love them πŸ₯° and I'm sure the hoggies do too . With 5 already in use , they've been worth every penny . The 6th pod will remain empty in case I need to give care to any Hedgehog in absolute emergency before being transferred or if one needs to return from fostering .

Thankyou thankyou thankyou ! X

Awwww look at Angus πŸ₯° ......he's trying to keep cool on the cool pad he has in his bedroom area. .
Normally the pad is clear of newspaper and the back part full of newspaper for him to make a nest . BUT , just like us throwing covers off when we're hot.... He's kicking or dragging the bedding all over the place lol

Now , although he's looking cute ......I think he's feeling pretty fed up with this hot weather (as is I!) .

Soooo, id like to fundraise for air conditioning. This is to ensure a steady temperature to keep the hogs feeling more comfortable.

If you can help , please do . Every penny of every pound goes to making sure Hedgehogs in my care have all that they need . If each.'follower' donated Β£5 , that would be enough to buy and fit air conditioning!

Another little one in and this one staggered in front of my car πŸš— in the early hours of Sunday morning πŸŒ„

Scooped and taken home 🏠 where he was popped in an incubator as he was a little dehydrated. He was also carrying a few unwanted jumping things so they were spritzed away .

Here he is splooting in the incubator... Look at them little legs and that tail 😍

He weighed only 108g when he arrived and is already over 130g. BUT, with some dodgy looking πŸ’© , it was checked and Coccidia found so antibiotics were started straight away as left untreated he would die.

Fingers crossed for this little one 🀞

A few days ago I had a call from my local vets about a hedgehog that had been taken in. I grabbed my small travel incubator and headed straight there.
Oh my he is a cutie πŸ₯° Sam is a cutie πŸ₯°

Sam came with quite a few tag-a-longs so i politely sprayed them goodbye lol

He came in at 95g and is now just over 100g. He isn't eating much and until today he refused to be hand fed. I've checked lots of his poo πŸ’© and can't find anything.

Sooo, I shall be keeping an extra close eye on him 🧐

Remember the noisy wheezy Harry ?!
He is now back to being a wild hoggy 😁

His very noisy wheezy breathing was due to 100s of CAP (roundworm eggs!) and in addition to this he also had a wound above his ear , which I suspect to be from fighting another hedgehog (possible former resident Horace!).

He arrived at 991g and was under close observation because of the breathing and because he wouldn't eat/drink to begin with . With some fluids , medication and time he overcame lots and was released at 1040g all healed up and free of parasites. Still has a snuffle but it's a hedgehog snuffle and nothing more 😁

Thankyou to the finders for getting him help and having him back .

Picture on the left shows him having his time in the nebuliser to help with his wheezing and the picture on the right shows a cheeky Harry ready to go.

I love it when they get to go free πŸ₯°

New addition last week was Hamish who was seen and 'heard' on night camera.
Luckily for Hamish he had some determined finders who stayed up to scoop him so he could be brought into care.

He was wheezy , had nasal discharge, was absolutely filthy and also had a wound in a 'delicate' area.

Poo πŸ’© sample showed lungworm so treatment was started alongside some wound care.

Breathing is sounding better already , he has gone from 925g to 969g and the wound you can't even see with all his lovely floof! 😍

Picture on the left shows his wound just after cleaning for the first time. Just above the wound is his p***s or as I describe it , a sticky out belly button lol 🀣 (it's the easiest way to describe when asking someone to 's*x' a hedgehog)

Picture on the right is him just chilling , but wanting out already lol

The last of the hog ladies to gain freedom this week is Tink (who did stink lol ) and is also a little camera shy 🫣.

Arriving at 704g with CAP , Fluke and Coccidia , she left weighing 814g without those nasties.

Go be free Tink πŸ₯°
