Not every 3 year old is ready to be broken in! We take in lots of 3 year olds just to start some ground work! Quite often physically, they aren’t ready for a rider but mentally they need to start connecting their legs to their brain! 🤪
We start with ground work, desensitisation, long reining and long reining hacking. This is the foundation to create a happy horse under saddle later on. We can build muscle and strength whilst keeping the relaxation and not putting too much pressure on the body but giving their mind something to focus on. We always do ground work before breaking but some horses just need a little longer to mature. 🤗
Here Sapphire did a month of ground work and long reining. We had a little sit on her and a walk around before she’s going home for a winter break and will come back in the spring to be properly broken. We don’t have a set plan for every horse, some take longer and need more time. Sapphire may come back in the spring, do another month and be turned away again. It all depends on the individual horse and no horse will be rushed or pushed to do more than they are able. 🥰 message me for more info! ❤️
