Sorry for the lack of updates it’s been a busy time!

On Saturday we set off early to the CSHPC spring show with Rose and Nola.

Ailie has taken over the reins with Nola and she is doing a fantastic job! This was Nola first show and first time in an indoor arena. She handled it all really well and came second in hand 🎉. Later in the day she did the walk trot class to gain some experience in the show ring. I couldn’t fault her behaviour and Ailie did the best job riding her!

Rose has only been backed for a few weeks but it was a lovely show to take her too! Rose came sixth in hand and was foot perfect throughout. She then also did the walk trot class and came 4th. It’s a big ask for Rose to be surrounded by ponies, stand quietly in the line up then head out to her individual. Apart from being understandably tired she was a superstar. Rose has now headed back home.

Our aim with both ponies was for them to go out and have a nice first outing which they certainly did. Very proud of both ponies 🥰

At the start of this week I had a very special visitor

Some of you will remember Mac that was here last year for some work. I had the best time riding him and this week he made the 3 hour long journey back! He came with his owner and his rider for a lesson in ridden and in hand showing for a couple of days.

He is looking amazing, such a happy boy and they’re all doing a great job with him. It was lovely to see him being ridden, of course he couldn’t come and visit without having a sit on him 🥰 Excited to see them all out at some shows this year

Another new arrival this week is Derwen.

He’s a lovely Connemara gelding in for some groundwork ahead of some in hand showing this year. He is a super sweet boy and such a time waster. Being around Derwen involved lots of smooches and scratches 🤣

He’s picked all his groundwork up quickly and isn’t phased by much!

Cuillin arrived at the start of the week.

He’s a five year old highland in for some groundwork. He can be a nervous of new things. Day one the poles might eat him but he’s gaining confidence by the day ☺️

Selkie had her first time in the arena last week.

When the ponies are backed here they learn the majority of everything out and about so don’t have a lot of time in the arena until they are ready.

Selkie had been out around the field exploring, so it was time for her to go in the arena.

She took everything really well apart from being a bit wobbly and veering off toward her friends at time but it is all to be expected. At the end of the session she felt much better and even had her first canter

Jessie spent last week out on the thirty minutes hack including a play in the river.

The aim for Jessie this year is to be a trekking pony at Highland Horse Fun Kingussie. Once she was confident on the thirty minute route she headed onto the one hour walk route!

Ailie rode her round the one hour route and did a great job with her. Jessie led the majority of the way with Nellie and myself following on behind.

Jessie took everything in her stride, apart from getting a bit distracted by the stallions shouting from a few fields away. (She has been a Broodmare up until now so who can blame her 🤷🏻‍♀️)

Ossian braved the dummy and being out long reining.

He can be a sensitive boy and has previously thrown in some ninja moves during groundwork and first day having his saddle on. We did a couple of days putting the dummy on and off without strapping it on to make him as confident as possible.

First day of having the dummy strapped on we did in the pen just in case he wanted to add in fancy footwork! He can now confidently head out on the long reins with the dummy on

Rose is now long reining with the dummy.

Rose is one super chilled girl, everything asked of her she gives it her best try. After five minutes of the dummy going on and off, having a wander round with me holding the dummy on off she went on the long reins. Look at that happy face in the photos 🥰

Nellie is now out on longer hacks.

Nellie is turning out to be a little pocket rocket! She’s a lovely forward ride and seems to enjoy going out exploring. On Saturday we went down to the river for a splash while the weather is nice! We had to wait for a train and passed lots of traffic
