Pony Trekking 70th Anniversary 1952 to 2022 - 23-25 Sept 2022 at Kingussie There will be free camping and coralling for all thise wishing to attend.

The 70th Anniversary of Pony Trekking is due in 2022 and we will have a Long Weekend of Celebrations from Friday the 23rd Sept to Sunday 25th Sept at Highland Horse Fun KIngussie. In 1952 the Ormiston Family at the Balavil Arms Hotel in Newtonmore, headed by Ewan Ormiston, are credited with being the pioneers of the outdoor sport of Pony Trekking which was the start of fun recreational riding holi

days as we know them today. Ewan's son Cameron was there at the beginning and he ran the trekking business till 1992 when his some Ruaridh took over. It is still possible to go Pony Trekking today at the family's Highland Horse Fun in Kingussie and to still experience the people, ponies and atmosphere that made it happen back in 1952.

Please note we are now permanently closed at Highland Horse Fun Kingussie from the end of October 2025 after 74 years of operating in the pony trekking business.
Ruaridh Ormiston has stepped back to start retirement and sadly the girls did not wish to continue on their own.
We will still take horses for holiday livery / horse b and b and we will still be breeding a few Highland Ponies but the pony trekking and lessons etc are now finished.
All the working ponies are away on winter loan till at least Easter and once they start to arrive back we will put them up for sale.
Sadly the end of an era and can I thank everybody who has helped out and been involved over all these years with the Ormiston Highlands. We all have some very happy memories 🙂
Many thanks
Ruaridh Ormiston
