Paws hydrotherapy service is available on veterinary referral only. The veterinary surgeon will need to fill in the hydrotherapy request form providing pool4paws with a history of your dogs healthcare and relevant clinical information. During the treatments your vet will receive a written report every 10 sessions. Your first session will include a pre-hydrotherapy assessment and may take longer than a normal hydrotherapy session. During hydrotherapy sessions we encourage owners to join in giving the dog praise, toys and treats while they are in the pool. A fully qualified and NARCH registered canine hydrotherapist is always present in the pool with your dog, even for fun swim sessions. Conditions that benefit from Hydrotherapy:

Who could resist this little face, this is Poppy, she has come from Romania and her home offer fell through, she is currently being fostered by our lovely client Melanie Loveridge, Carly got to meet her this morning, she is very sweet and wants cuddles, but still a bit bewildered by it all as she only arrived here this weekend, if you think you could offer her a home then please contact this email address or one of us at the pool.

As many of you know Carly is mum to 3 amputee rescue dogs. She is a huge advocate for amputees and has done lectures on the subject for other professionals, everyone says oh they cope fine on 3 legs, well they do because they have to but there are so many compensatory problems that they have because of this, Carly is a huge advocate for them having rehabilitation as soon after amputation as possible, did you know it is incredibly rare we see amputees straight after their surgery, instead they get referred after a period of time when they have developed other issues, the video below she uses in her lectures, the first shows how short the stride of an amputee dog is with 3 legs, this is so they can maintain momentum and not stumble or fall, the 2nd video shows how hydrotherapy can help to allow them to stretch their legs out whilst weightless in the pool, this helps them massively in the long term.
If anyone has questions about amputees or prosthetics Carly is always happy to talk about it
(Yes these are 2 of her special babies)

Thank you to everyone who has beared with us this week rearranging appointments so we could avoid treating your dogs in the hottest parts of the day, next week looks similar so we will let you know if we need to move your appointment for the best welfare of your dogs. Meanwhile check out this lot who have purchased their cooling coats this week, they really help to reduce their body temperatures during this heatwave, we use them on our own dogs as well, some still available at the centre x
