As many of you know Carly is mum to 3 amputee rescue dogs. She is a huge advocate for amputees and has done lectures on the subject for other professionals, everyone says oh they cope fine on 3 legs, well they do because they have to but there are so many compensatory problems that they have because of this, Carly is a huge advocate for them having rehabilitation as soon after amputation as possible, did you know it is incredibly rare we see amputees straight after their surgery, instead they get referred after a period of time when they have developed other issues, the video below she uses in her lectures, the first shows how short the stride of an amputee dog is with 3 legs, this is so they can maintain momentum and not stumble or fall, the 2nd video shows how hydrotherapy can help to allow them to stretch their legs out whilst weightless in the pool, this helps them massively in the long term.
If anyone has questions about amputees or prosthetics Carly is always happy to talk about it
(Yes these are 2 of her special babies)
