📍 FOUND DOG – DUNSTON 📍

🐶 Has anyone lost this lovely girl?

She has been found in Dunston with no collar or identification. She is currently safe and being cared for by me.

If nobody comes forward, she will be taken to Sheriff Highway Vets in Whickham so they can check for a microchip and help reunite her with her owner.

Please contact me if you recognise her or know who she belongs to.

🙏 Please share to help get her home.

Keeping a pup's paws in top shape requires a bit more than just casual attention during a routine walk.
1. Rinse the paws with lukewarm water after trips through mud to keep dirt from causing long-term irritation.
2. Pat the areas between the toes thoroughly dry to stop moisture from becoming a breeding ground for fungal issues.
3. Brush the fur around the pads to prevent mats from trapping debris that can cause limping.
4. Apply a natural paw balm during winter months to prevent those painful seasonal cracks.
5. Introduce protective booties when walking on hot pavement or sharp, icy surfaces to shield sensitive skin.
Building these small habits into your daily routine keeps those paws ready for any adventure.

As temperatures begin to rise, the safety and wellbeing of the dogs in my care will always be my top priority. While I know all of the dogs love their walks, their health and safety must always come first

☀️ Warm weather is great for walks and adventures, but it can be dangerous for dogs if they get too hot.

Here are a few simple ways to keep your pup safe this summer:
🐾 Walk early in the morning or later in the evening
🐾 When out walking, choose routes with shaded areas and or access to water
🐾 Always carry extra water for your dog
🐾 Avoid hot pavements — if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws
🐾 Be careful around rivers and lakes, especially if your dog isn’t a confident swimmer
🐾 Never leave dogs in parked cars, even for a few minutes
🐾 Watch for signs of heatstroke like excessive panting, drooling, vomiting, or lethargy

Some dogs struggle more in the heat, especially flat faced breeds, older dogs, and puppies. Keep them cool, shaded, and comfortable. ❤️

Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine, just be responsible ☀️

Ever wondered why your dog perks their ears up at the slightest sound? It turns out they have over a dozen individual muscles dedicated solely to moving those ears, which explains why they can pinpoint noise so much better than we can. Here is how you can pay closer attention to their non-verbal cues:

1. Watch the base of the ear to see how they orient toward your voice or a rustling treat bag.
2. Notice how those muscles help them swivel to filter out ambient noise and focus on what matters most to them.
3. Keep in mind that a relaxed ear posture usually suggests a calm state of mind.

Understanding these physical movements helps you decode their world a bit more clearly. It is fascinating how much expression is packed into such a small area of their body.

As the weather gets warmer and more people head outdoors, please be extra careful when walking your dogs. This is the time of year when adders become more active and may be found sunbathing in long grass, woodland edges, heathland, rocky areas, and footpath borders.

Keep dogs on leads in higher risk areas, stay on clear paths where possible, and avoid letting them sniff into thick grass or undergrowth.
