A very chilled Lara 🍌 enjoying stable life at PES 🥰

Meet Lara! 🍌

She is a 6 year old Connemara who’s come to us following SI injections. Over the next few weeks we’ll be working closely alongside her owner to help strengthen her correctly from behind, encourage her to use her back properly, and build confidence in her body again.

We’ll also be working with her rider to improve their partnership and way of going together — creating a stronger, more confident combination for the future.

Rehab isn’t just about riding — it’s groundwork, long lining, in-hand exercises, and building the right foundations 💪

Not every training session looks exciting. 😅

Sometimes progress is just patience, timing, and knowing when to take the pressure away.

Progress with sensitive horses rarely happens in a straight line, and Blue’s sore legs have made handling difficult for him in the past. So this isn’t about forcing him through it — it’s about helping him feel safe enough to cope, one small step at a time.

Small improvements, lots of pauses, and giving the horse time to process can make all the difference.

Another horse we worked with during our recent yard visit was Phoenix 🐦‍🔥

Phoenix is a lovely young horse who had started to become a little pushy when being led, often getting on top of her owner and not fully respecting personal space. This is something we see quite a lot with youngsters — especially the sweet, friendly ones who trust their humans and just want to be close! 😆

For this first session, we worked on helping Phoenix understand space, slow down, and become more aware of where the handler was. Small things like standing quietly, not drifting into pressure, and paying attention to the person beside her all make a huge difference as young horses grow bigger and stronger.

Groundwork like this might seem simple, but it lays the foundations for safer, clearer communication in the future 🤍

Last week we travelled out to visit a lovely yard and work with a few different horses — those videos are still to come 👀🐴

One of them was Bambi, who was happy enough loading onto the trailer, but became worried once she was on. She struggled to stand and stay relaxed, and really didn’t like the back bar being put up behind her, which caused her to panic.

Instead of rushing or forcing the issue, we focused on slowing everything down and helping her feel more comfortable with each stage of the process. Lots of patience, repetition, and quiet handling so she had time to stop, look around, think, and relax.

By the end of the session, Bambi was standing much more calmly on the trailer and waiting quietly like a very good girl and we even got the back bar up! 🤍

First impressions of Blue 💙👀
Pressing a few buttons and seeing what’s there…

Because before any training starts, it’s about understanding the horse in front of you —
quiet questions, small responses, and observation.

Here at Professional Equine Services we aim to show you the best bits… but real life doesn’t always go to plan — especially when horses are involved 😅

Andrew’s great with the horses… the camera, not so much 🎥😂
