Due to it raining yesterday we had to move the training indoors, one of the training games we played was a search game. Playing this game helps your dogs to engage their natural instincts, to forage, hunt and explore the world through their nose. This provides a fulfilling outlet for a behaviour that is hard wired in to them, and also encourages them to use problem solving skills, as they have to figure out where the scent is coming from. It may not look like physical exercise, such as running or playing fetch, but they are surprisingly physically tiring. It also builds confidence, helps reduce stress and anxiety, and strengthens the bond between owner and dog.
