I use this all the time in work and with my own dogs. Dogs can’t speak to us in our language but they do in their own! Each tiny piece of body language starting on the bottom rung of the ladder and moving up the ladder is a dogs way of saying they are not comfortable with the situation. Seeing and acting on the lower ladder levels stops the escalation of the more serious actions higher up the ladder. Dogs rarely bite totally out of the blue, there are always lower levels of communication going on- we just don’t see it!!
