Dog's Nose

A dog's nose is primarily made up of skin, specifically three layers of epidermis, with the outermost layer known as the stratum corneum. This layer gives the nose its unique texture, similar to fingerprints in humans.
The nose also contains specialized structures like turbinates, which increase surface area for olfactory receptors, allowing dogs to have up to 300 million olfactory receptors compared to about 6 million in humans. Additionally, the moist tip of the nose aids in scent detection

Is Your Dog Anxious During Stormy Weather? 🐶

Be prepared before Storm Eowyn hits.

Storms can be scary for dogs, but with the right steps, you can help them feel safe and calm. Keep them indoors, create them a safe space indoors, and provide distractions like toys or soothing music. Keep curtains closed and where possible keep to your dog's routine (such as feeding schedule) where possible. The only change to the routine maybe the time that you walk your dog, always walk (if safe to do so) before the storm hits.

Watch for signs of stress like shaking, panting, or hiding, and reassure them with your own calm presence.

If you have working dogs that may live outside, please consider bringing them in for the night, or at least into a shed where they can get out of the weather and the colder temperatures.

The wind, rain and temperatures can all have a significant impact on our dogs health and welfare. It is our job as their guardians to ensure that we look after them and prioritise their health, safety and well being.
