I’m super excited to begin my journey with the Holistic Dog Grooming Academy 🙏🏻🐾. I’m so passionate about the wellbeing of our dogs which runs far deeper than purely physical. The skin and coat are of course super important but the mind and soul are so interconnected with the body that to me they should never be ignored. We can put a dog through a groom to get the result of a beautiful aesthetic appearance, some dogs love this and tolerate it well (think show dogs) but there are every bit as many (if not more) that are at very best shut down enough to “get the groom done” and at worse absolutely terrified.
There’s another way to work with dogs to carry out the essential grooming they require. It takes time, trust and lots of patience but it most certainly can be achieved.
We want our dogs to feel safe and secure at the groomers and even enjoy their grooming experience.
I can’t wait to implement what I’m learning into my grooms, they are all so precious and deserve nothing less ❤️🐾

🌹 🛁🫧🌹BABY ROSIE🌹🫧🛁🌹

Rosie was in to finish her first big girl haircut. She is just the sweetest, wriggliest little ball of fluff with so much energy and soooo much hair.
I only do what I feel is enough for a dog in each session. Every dog has different thresholds, grooming can be so stressful for many of them. Breaking it down to two or several sessions is far more beneficial, especially for puppies and fearful dogs. Grooming is a life long necessity, it’s so important to get things right for every dog at their pace.
As much as I would have loved to have fluff dried Rosie for a nicer haircut, it’s far more important to me she’s not scared by the force of the drier. I dried her from a distance so she hung onto to these curls. There’s plenty time for that as she grows.
Isn’t she beautiful. See you next time pretty girl 🌹

I just love this girl, she’s such a pleasure to groom. She was feeling a bit sensitive today (us girls know how she feels) so her groom was all about making her feel relaxed, refreshed and recharged. Judging by the kisses I got after, I think she enjoyed it.

It was very nice to meet Mr Dougal today. He came in for a bath and blow dry ahead of his groom next month. We had a lovely relaxed time getting to know each other, so much so he decided to fall asleep during his blow dry 🤩. Looking forward to having him back in soon, he truly is such a sweet boy 🩵🐾

Aww little Miss Minnie is 12 years old, bless her. After a lifetime of grooming she deserves to take it easy. She got to curl up all cosy to get her head dried 🥰.

Little Marvin had everyone scratching their heads yesterday at The Royal (Dick) Hospital in Edinburgh wondering how on earth he can walk. An MRI and CT scan showed a severe spinal abnormality that had been there since birth. His vertebra are pretty much all over the place, in one section all signs of them completely disappear. He stayed over night last night in Edinburgh for observation. Because he was lying flat on his back during the MRI they were concerned when he came around his back leg weakness would be worse. They called us on our way home to say they couldn’t believe that he was up walking about looking for food 🤣.
Because his spine is so distorted surgery would be very complex and not routine so they needed speak to the lead Veterinary Neurologist in the UK to have a look at his scans and advise the next step in treatment.

It’s been decided today we do nothing at all for the time being. He’s to lose a bit of weight, limit him jumping up or down where possible, make some little changes in the house to make things easier for him. His weakness is classed as mild at the moment despite his very strange looking spine and could stay that way for a long time. If and when it weakens again he will start steroids and at that point we can think about surgery. At least now they have his MRI and CT scan images for when or if surgery is needed in the future.
As you can imagine iv been one stressed out Mama and couldn’t wait to get my hands on my little guy today. The vets last words were, he should live like a king 👑 so a King he shall be 🤣.
