Bringing a puppy home is exciting… but it can also feel overwhelming very quickly.

Biting. Pulling. Jumping up. Toilet training struggles.
Puppies who are too distracted to listen outside.
Feeling like your puppy has two speeds — asleep or chaos.

That’s where the right foundations matter.

My Pawdawan Puppy Classes are designed to help you build calm focus, connection, and real-life skills from the very beginning using kind, reward-based training methods.

These small group classes focus on:
✔ Calm engagement around distractions
✔ Lead walking foundations
✔ Recall games
✔ Confidence building
✔ Focus around other dogs
✔ Handling and life skills
✔ Building a strong relationship with your puppy

Classes are kept intentionally small (maximum 4 puppies) so every owner receives individual guidance and support.

The goal of training isn’t obedience for obedience’s sake.

It’s a dog who feels confident navigating the human world — and an owner who feels supported, not judged.

That’s the foundation I focus on in all of my work.

If that approach resonates with you, you’ll feel very at home in my classes.

If you’ve ever worried you’re being “too soft” with your dog, you’re not alone.
In reality, fair and consistent training builds far more reliability than intimidation ever could.
Trying harder often looks like tighter leads, more nagging, more frustration.

Adolescence needs clarity, not pressure.

This is where changing the strategy matters more than trying to control the behaviour.
Calm dogs come from calm teaching — and calm teaching starts with knowing what to do next.

Training doesn’t need to rely on force or fear to be effective.

Dogs learn best when they feel safe, supported and understood.

That’s why all of my training is based on modern behavioural science and positive reinforcement — not outdated dominance ideas.

Kindness and clarity aren’t opposites. They work together.

Walking further doesn’t automatically fix pulling or distraction.

Often, slowing the walk down and reducing expectations helps far more.

Quality beats quantity — especially when we’re teaching dogs how to stay emotionally regulated in busy environments.

If your walks don’t look calm or polished yet, that’s okay.

Real-life training is messy — especially with puppies and adolescents.

What matters most is building small moments of connection and reinforcing the choices you do like.

Walks tell us a lot about how a dog is feeling.

Pulling, scanning, stopping, reacting — these are all forms of communication.

When we treat walks as training opportunities rather than something to “get through”, progress becomes much easier.

Calm, connected walking starts with understanding why a dog is behaving the way they are.

One of the biggest mistakes I see during adolescence is expecting adult-level behaviour from a dog with an adolescent brain.

More pressure rarely produces more focus.

What does help is slowing things down, revisiting foundations, and rebuilding connection where distractions live — out on walks, not just indoors.

Training at this stage isn’t about control.
It’s about guidance.

I can't believe that you are 11 already. Where has the time gone? I know you haven't quite realised that the passing of time means that you should be slowing down, that your body is no longer able to do the things you want. Instead you are just as you were as a pup. Always on the go, never taking a moment to pause and think. Your default mode is full steam ahead and all in. Shouting at me as I struggle to keep up with your unwaivering energy.

You are definitely, nor have you ever been the easiest dog to live with, but even so you captured my heart. You have and are still teaching me stuff every single hour of every single day.

So here I am on your eleventh Birthday, reflecting on the past 11 years together, remembering the good times, the not so good times, the losses we suffered together as first we lost Shadow, your idol as a pup. Then next to go was your mum Luna who you simply adored. And finally we lost your sister Seina just a few years ago and although you weren't the closest of friends, I watched how you grieved for her, how you struggled to adjust to life as a single dog.

Through it all, I have supported you, strived to be the best partner you could ask for. On this your 11th birthday I hope you know how much you mean to me, how much I have enjoyed my time training and playing with you, but I think the time has come for you to slow down a little my dear girl, you are not 2 anymore! I can see your body starting to struggle with the stress of trying to keep up with your mind. So do us both a favour Cassie, listen when I tell you to put the brakes on, it is not me being mean, it is me telling you that if you keep going the way your are you will break something! Don't be dissappointed if I stop a session early, I am only thinking of your welfare so we can keep enjoying our golden years together for a good while longer!

Happy Birthday my crazy girl!

And Happy Birthday to your brothers Zen and Nico!

“He knows this already.”

I hear this a lot from adolescent dog owners — especially when walks start to feel hard work again.

What’s often happening is that the environment has become more exciting than the skills your dog learned earlier.

That’s normal.

Adolescence is where training needs to shift, not stop.
We adjust expectations, rebuild focus, and make success easier again.
