Come and have a go at our next Hoopers course, starting Saturday 23rd May 🤩

❤️ Why do we love Hoopers?
- Low impact, so any age dog can do it! Puppy to Golden Oldie - it's suitable for all
- You pick the pace! Fast, slow, mixing it up as you go around - as long as you're having fun, you're doing it right!
- Any breed can do it! The Collies love it (obviously!), but so do the sight hounds, the huskeys....it's fun for all of them

Thought this Loose Lead Walking clip from our Training Club was impressive the other week? Check out how we take it from the classroom, to real life! 🌍🐕

It doesn’t just “happen” outside — it’s BUILT step by step.

First, you start in your classroom. Quiet, calm, and (most importnatly) set up for success. Practicing all sorts of different exercises, that may sometimes even seem a little bit odd. Then slowly, but surely, you build it up.
You begin working through the 3 D’s:

➡️ Distance – how far your dog can stay in position with you
➡️ Duration – how long they can maintain that loose lead
➡️ Distraction – what’s happening around them

You only increase ONE at a time 👆

And then, one day, you find yourself Loose Lead Walking like a PRO, along the beach... 🏖️🐾 For most dogs, let's be honest, that's the ULTIMATE challenge. They could run for miles. They could swim accross the ocean. And if in that moment they choose to walk nicely with you? You're winning 🥇

✨ So remember: Good training isn’t rushed — it’s layered

Top 3 ways to build THIS level of control around other dogs 👇🐕

(Yes — calm, focused movement even in close proximity 👀)

1️⃣ Teach calmness & neutrality
This isn’t about forcing your dog to “ignore” others — it’s about helping them feel calm first. Reward relaxed body language, soft focus, and disengagement. Start at a distance where your dog can succeed and reinforce those neutral choices consistently.

2️⃣ Build a strong lead walking skill
Loose lead walking is your foundation. Your dog should understand how to stay connected to you, match your pace, and respond to subtle guidance. Practice in low-distraction environments first, then gradually layer in more challenges.

3️⃣ Gradually decrease distance
Don’t rush this. Start far enough away that your dog stays calm, then slowly close the gap over multiple sessions. If your dog becomes tense or reactive, you’ve moved too fast — create more space and rebuild success.

✨ Control isn’t created in the moment — it’s built through clear communication, consistency, and patience.
