Sadie and Emma joined our socialisation classes as Emma’s expecting her first child. Sadie’s a lovely girl but she struggles to control her excitement when she sees other people or dogs. Living rurally means everything’s a novelty to her, so once that excitement kicks in, it’s hard for her to bring it back down.
As Emma says, Sadie’s got no bad intent. She’s friendly. But with a dog her size and strength, over-excitement alone can cause harm. Whether that’s to Emma or to someone else.
We’ve been working on teaching Sadie how to settle, and she’s getting there with the work Emma’s putting in at home. As she matures, she’s got the tools to stay calm when it actually matters. Like walking steadily next to a buggy instead of dragging Emma down the street. That’s the goal here.
