This was our patient (and best friend!) for the day — lovely Ziggy 🐶💛 He came in to have his deciduous canine (baby tooth) removed.

It’s really important to have these baby teeth taken out if they don’t fall out naturally, as they can push adult teeth into the wrong place or even damage them. Ziggy was such a superstar today! 🌟

👀 Your pet’s eyes do a lot more than help them see — they’re also a window into their health. But because pets can’t tell us when something feels wrong, it’s up to us to spot the signs early.

Here are 7 common warning signs of poor eye health:
1️⃣ Asymmetry – eyes don’t look the same
2️⃣ Irritation – rubbing, squinting, or redness
3️⃣ Blindness – clumsy, confused, or vision loss
4️⃣ Tear Staining – reddish-brown streaks under the eyes
5️⃣ Redness – inflamed or swollen eyes
6️⃣ Cloudy / Colour Change – eyes lose their sparkle or change shade
7️⃣ Runny / Sticky Eyes – watery, mucus, or unusual discharge

🐾 Eye problems can be painful and progress quickly. If you notice any of these changes, the best thing you can do is book a check-up with your vet. Early care means happier, healthier eyes — and a happier, healthier pet. ❤️

🐾 Pet Eye Health Awareness Week: Rusty’s Story 🐾

Rusty, a retired police search dog, developed a sore patch near his eye linked to a chronic skin condition. Thanks to specialist care at our South Woodford practice, his condition is now well managed.

Vet Adam Thoms explained:

“Rusty’s condition is being managed with medication and he’s responded very well to treatment and is feeling much more comfortable.”

Rusty’s story is a reminder of how important eye health is for our pets. Here are 7 common signs of poor eye health to look out for:

👁️ Asymmetry
👁️ Irritation
👁️ Blindness
👁️ Tear staining
👁️ Redness
👁️ Dull, cloudy, or colour change
👁️ Runny or sticky eyes

If you notice any of these, book a check-up—early care makes a huge difference.

Ouch! Brave Ruby had a pesky grass seed stuck in her eye 🌱👀 — but she handled it like a star ⭐ Grass seeds are especially common at this time of year, so it’s a good idea to check your dog’s eyes, ears, paws, and coat after walks to catch any sneaky seeds before they cause trouble!

We are aware of a few videos circulating social media at the moment regarding ibuprofen ingestion in dogs.

Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It is commonly used in people for the relief of pain and inflammation associated with aches and pains, headache, cramps and for the relief of mild fever.

Ibuprofen is a very widely available over-the-counter painkiller. Although well tolerated in people, dogs are very sensitive to ibuprofen and ingestion of even a relatively low dose can cause adverse effects on the gut and the kidneys. A very large overdose can even cause very rapid onset features including convulsions.

☎️Owners can call Animal PoisonLine on 01202 509000 if they are concerned about their pet.

We do not recommend the administration of any human medications without prior consultation with your veterinary surgeon.

Meet Ray Ray, our brave little Miniature Pinscher 🐾❤️

He joined us for a follow-up appointment to check on his pacemaker implant site and healing progress after being referred for treatment of third-degree AV block (a condition where the heart’s electrical signals are blocked).

Thanks to his pacemaker, Ray Ray now has a regular heartbeat—and a much brighter, healthier future ahead. What a little warrior! 💪🐶💓

Your Easter trolley might be full of delicious treats — but some of them can be dangerous for your pets 🛒🐾 If you're stocking up this weekend, make sure to keep these out of paws’ reach:

🍫 Chocolate eggs – toxic to dogs and cats
🍬 Sugar-free sweets (like jelly beans) – may contain xylitol
🍞 Hot cross buns – raisins and sultanas are highly toxic to dogs
🧄 Onions & garlic – can cause serious illness in cats and dogs
🍖 Cooked lamb bones – can splinter and cause internal injuries
🍷 Alcohol – even a small amount can be harmful or fatal to pets

Keep cupboards shut, counters clear, and baskets up high 📲 Tag a fellow pet parent to spread the word! Wishing everyone a happy, healthy, and pet-safe Easter! 💛🐣
