🌾🐾 Grass Seed Season is Upon Us! 🐾🌾

With the warmer weather and longer grass, we’re seeing the return of one of summer’s most common veterinary problems – grass seeds.

Although small, grass seeds can cause significant discomfort if they become lodged in your dog’s paws, ears, eyes, nose or skin. Left untreated, they can lead to painful infections and may even require surgical removal.

🐶 Common signs to look out for:
• Excessive paw licking or chewing
• Sudden limping
• Head shaking or ear scratching
• Sneezing or nasal discharge
• Red, sore or weepy eyes
• Swellings or painful lumps

✔️ After walks, especially through long grass, take a few minutes to check your dog’s paws, ears, eyes and coat.

Early treatment is often much simpler and can prevent more serious complications developing.

If you’re concerned your pet may have a grass seed problem, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our friendly team on 020 8529 4004.

💩 When constipation becomes more than just a tummy upset…

Poor Nala came to see us at VetCall feeling very uncomfortable after becoming severely constipated.

The first X-ray shows a significant build-up of faeces within her colon, which can cause pain, straining, reduced appetite, vomiting and lethargy. Left untreated, constipation can become a serious medical issue and may even lead to a condition called megacolon.

Today, Nala received an e***a to help clear the blockage. The second X-ray shows the improvement afterwards, with her colon much less impacted and on the road to recovery. ❤️

Constipation in cats can occur for a number of reasons, including:
🐱 Dehydration
🐱 Low fibre diets
🐱 Obesity or reduced mobility
🐱 Stress or environmental changes
🐱 Underlying medical conditions

If your cat is spending longer than usual in the litter tray, straining to pass faeces, producing small hard stools, or seems uncomfortable, it’s important to seek veterinary advice sooner rather than later.

We’re pleased to say Nala is feeling much more comfortable and has been a very brave patient today! 🐾

🌈 World Pet Memorial Day 🌈

Today, on World Pet Memorial Day, we take a moment to remember the beloved pets who have touched our lives and left paw prints on our hearts forever. ❤️

As a veterinary team, we are incredibly privileged to build such special relationships with both our patients and their families. We share in the happy moments, the milestones, and sometimes the difficult goodbyes too. The bond between people and their pets is truly something special, and it is an honour to be a part of that journey.

This photo shows our consultation room fridge, covered with pictures of some of the wonderful pets we have cared for over the years. Many of these faces belong to long-term patients who became much more than just names in our diary – they became part of the Vetcall family. Looking at these photos brings back so many fond memories and reminds us of the joy, love and companionship they brought to their families and to our team.

Today, we remember them with gratitude and love. ❤️

If you would like to, please feel free to share a photo or memory of a much-loved pet in the comments. We’d love to celebrate their life with you. 🐾

🐾 Today is a big day for lovely Hazel, who is in at Vetcall for her spay procedure. ❤️

Before her operation, Hazel enjoyed plenty of fuss and cuddles from one of our nurses to help her feel relaxed and comfortable. As you can see, she was soaking up all the attention! 🥰

Neutering is an important part of responsible cat ownership. Female cats can become pregnant from a very young age, and a single unspayed cat can contribute to a large number of unwanted kittens over her lifetime. Spaying helps prevent unplanned litters and can also reduce the risk of certain health conditions, including womb infections and some types of cancer.

By having your cat neutered, you’re not only helping to protect their health and wellbeing, but also playing an important role in reducing the number of cats needing homes.

We’re looking forward to seeing Hazel recover and return home later today for lots of rest, treats, and cuddles. 💕🐱
