Why we love Hoopers & Improvers Agility at Dog in a Box

Want something fun, different, and perfect for dogs of all shapes and sizes? Our Hoopers Membership is a low-impact sport where your dog runs through hoops, tunnels and around barrels. It’s brilliant for building distance skills, confidence, and focus, and it’s easy on the joints too. A fantastic way to enjoy training while keeping things light and playful!

For dogs who’ve already started their agility journey, our Improvers Agility Membership is the next step. You’ll work on more advanced sequences, sharpen your handling, and boost your dog’s speed and accuracy. It’s all about progression, teamwork and celebrating those “yes, we did it!” moments together.

Both memberships are just £89 each per month, with the flexibility to move up as your dog develops.

🎆🎇 Guy Fawkes Bonfire Night🎇🎆

The season of Fireworks is now upon us. Every year we hope they are contained to one night only, but as we know, they span from now until at least NYE. So, how can we help desensitize our woofers?

📻Play fireworks audio - Start by playing fireworks audio at a low volume & reward your dog after each loud noise. Gradually increase the volume & vary it until you can play the recording with your dog at ease.

🎧Mask the sounds - Try playing white noise from a fan, TV, or sound machine to help mask the sounds of fireworks. You can also try gentle, classical music.

😊Stay calm - Dogs can sense stress levels, so try to stay calm even if you're worried about your dog.

🏠Provide a safe space - Let your dog hide in a den or corner where they feel safe & comfortable

🎆Block out light - Pull the blinds & curtains to block out light flashes.

Desensitization can take several weeks, & eventually your dog should be able to remain relaxed even when the noises are at full intensity. If your dog has a heightened state of anxiety, we recommend speaking with your vet.

“It’s Yer Choice” — teach patience through calm waiting
Towel Roll Snuffle — let your pup slowly sniff out hidden treats
Slow “Find It” — encourage gentle scent work and focus

A few minutes of calm play can do wonders for your dog’s focus, confidence, and relaxation.
