Please be mindful about letting your dog run through long grass. Murphy came in today with a grass seed in his ear. The only way we can remove them is by sedating the dog and then try and pull the grass seed out with special forceps.

We have invested in a digital attachment for my stethoscope that will compare the heartbeat of your dog (dogs only sorry) to 4000 recorded heartbeats and will be able to give an objective grading of murmurs heard in stead of my probably slightly subjective grading. This way we can record your dog’s heart and compare over time how the heart is doing. I am super excited to be able to offer this on our repeat prescription check overs for dogs with a heart murmur. And for people who are wondering…. repeat prescription check overs are still free of charge 😘

This is what an ear smear looks like under the microscope. We are differentiating between malassezia, cocci or rods and then will adjust our treatment based on what we find. This is done in the practice so results will be discussed with you within 10-15 minutes of taking and staining the swabs.
