Today we say farewell and good luck to a truly wonderful colleague and friend as she finishes her time with us here at Aspen.

Amy has been an incredible head nurse, caring for and nursing so many animals back to health, and supporting their owners every step of the way. Her compassion, knowledge, and calm presence have made such a difference to our team and to every patient she’s cared for.

She has been an integral part of our practice, and we will all miss her very much. 💛

Wishing her all the best for her next chapter – they are lucky to have her.

P.s. Spike says he can’t believe his favourite servant is leaving

***Owner Found & Reunited***

We had this beautiful cat brought in to us yesterday. They aren’t microchipped so we are unable to easily reunite with an owner.
Found in Tolworth.
They are super chilled, so a picture of them not snoozing hasn’t been possible so far 😴
If you recognise them and can help us reunite with an owner, please give us a call at the practice 02083996437.
Proof of ownership required.
We’ve purposefully left out any identifying details so we can verify an owner.

**UPDATE***
***HOME FOUND***

We are reaching out again to our lovely clients to help with another stray needing a special forever home.

Orlando is the smoochiest, cuddliest boy who craves attention all day.

Orlando came in to us two weeks ago after being in and out the finders garden for a while. He was an entire tom who looks to be about 2 years old. He has now been neutered. We tested him for FIV/FeLV and sadly he has come back as positive for FIV. This has meant it’s been harder for the charities to be able to offer support for a home for him given he will require special care.

Many FIV cats are able to live a very happy and normal life for a long period of time after infection and indeed the virus may not ever necessarily cause clinical disease. But he would need to be an indoor only cat to reduce the risk of spread to any other cats through fighting. It does also mean he might be be able to be insured and will run the risk of being more susceptible to illness through the knock on his immune system. Please do have a read for further information at

Dont hesitate to contact us if you think you know someone who can help we are desperate to get him a loving family.

Can anyone help give this little girl a forever home? Tofu came in to us as a stray a couple of weeks ago and sadly no one has come forward for her 😢. One of our lovely receptionists has been fostering her for us but we our now reaching out to our wonderful clients to see if anyone can help. We think she is between 9-12 months old, incredibly friendly with people but really needs to be in a single pet household as she unfortunately hasn’t got on with other cats and dogs when tried in foster. She has no health concerns and has had her first vaccination/flea/worming. She is FIV/FeLV negative. She is constantly looking for cuddles and smooches so if you think you could give her the home she deserves please do contact us on 02083996437 🥰🥰

GRASS SEED SEASON IS HERE!!

Just a little reminder especially for the fluffiest of fluffy friends to watch out for grass seeds. Now the hot weather has finally arrived, grass seeds are shedding in abundance in fields, along the verges and parks. If at all possible, aiming for woodland walks or keeping your dogs away from the dense grass areas will help reduce their contact with these pesky seeds. Check your pooches feet and ears vigorously after walks and ask the groomers to trim them very short!!!
If you see your pet shaking their heads acutely of furiously licking/nibbling their feet then it may well be a grass seed stuck in there, so do contact us if you think that might be the case so we can get them out as soon as possible.

Keep those pups cool!! If in any doubt that your dog might be suffering heat stroke here’s a bit of first aid advice to cool them quick.

Is it true that if we use cold water on heat stroke pets they will go into shock?

One of the most common things we still hear is that we can only use tepid water on a pet with heat stroke, incase they get some complications like hypothermic overshoot, peripheral vasoconstriction hindering a cooling response, and cardiogenic shock...

We have heard not to use cold water in case it causes shock... this rarely happens!

But guess what? In a recent study over 26% of dogs presented with heat stroke died, with flat faced breeds making up nearly half of heat stroke cases seen in the study.

You should:

💧Get someone to call the local veterinary practice and tell them you're going to travel down with a heat stroke patient
💧Pour, hose or if possible immerse the pet in very cold water (this should obviously be done under constant supervision, ensuring the head is fully above water and immersion should not be attempted if the animal is too large, or you are unable to do so without hurting yourself)
💧NB: If using a hose pipe, make sure it has run through until cold, as they can often contain water that is extremely hot in the tubing initially
💧Do not drape in towels and leave them in situ. Keep the cold water flowing.
💧Move to a cool, shaded area
💧Prepare to transport to vets in a cold, air conditioned car

In studies they found that:

🌅International consensus from sports medicine organisations supports treating EHS with early rapid cooling by immersing the casualty in cold water.
🌅Ice-water immersion has been shown to be highly effective in exertional heat stroke, with a zero fatality rate in large case series of younger, fit patients.
🌅Hyperthermic individuals were cooled twice as fast by Cold Water Immersion as by passive recovery.
🌅No complications occurred during the treatment of three older patients with severe heat stroke were treated with cold‐water immersion.
🌅Cold water immersion (CWI) is the preferred cooling modality in EHS guidelines and the optimal method applicable to UK Service Personnel
🌅Studies suggest using either ice-water or cold-water immersion

The best intervention is PREVENTION, but if you find yourself with an animal with heat stroke, using cold water either by pouring, hosing or ideally (if safe) immersion then this may help reduce their temperature to safe levels while you transport to a veterinary practice.
