🐾 Meet Woody! 🐾

Woody came to see us today after developing a sore ear. On examination, our vet found the culprit – a pesky grass seed lodged in his ear canal! 🌾👂

While treating Woody, we also discovered he had an ear infection caused by Malassezia (a type of yeast), which can make ears itchy, smelly, and uncomfortable.

Grass seed season is well underway, so it's important to check your dog's ears, paws, and coat after walks, especially through long grass. Early detection can help prevent painful problems and costly procedures.

We hope Woody is feeling much more comfortable now and wish him a speedy recovery! 💚🐶

🐾 Grass Seed Season is Here! 🌾

Ted recently came to see us after a grass seed became lodged in his ear. These tiny seeds may look harmless, but they can cause a lot of discomfort and can even work their way into ears, paws, eyes, noses, and under the skin.

⚠️ Signs to watch out for: • Head shaking or ear scratching
• Excessive licking of paws
• Sneezing or nasal discharge
• Red, swollen, or painful areas
• Sudden limping

🐶 To help keep your dog safe: ✔️ Check your dog thoroughly after walks, especially around ears, paws, and between the toes
✔️ Avoid long grass where possible
✔️ Keep fur around paws and ears neatly trimmed
✔️ Contact your vet if you notice any of the signs above

Ted was a very brave boy and is feeling much more comfortable now! 💚

🐾 Bella's Brave Little Adventure 🐾

Little Bella came in to see the vet after having a bit too much fun during a playful tumble in the park with another dog. Thankfully, she was checked over by our team and was very brave throughout her visit. 💚

Of course, no trip to the vets would be complete without moral support, and her sister Rose was right by her side every step of the way. 🥰

🐾 Can You Open Your Heart and Home? 🐾

As many of you know, we work closely with Stray Cat Club, an amazing local charity dedicated to rescuing and rehoming cats in need.

Sadly, they have now had to close their doors to new admissions because they are completely full. They currently have so many beautiful cats and kittens waiting for their forever homes.

If you've ever considered adopting a cat, now is the perfect time. By giving one of these wonderful cats a loving home, you'll not only change their life but also help create space for future rescues that desperately need help.

Please consider adopting and sharing this post to help these deserving cats find the families they've been waiting for. ❤️🐱

For more information about available cats, please contact Stray Cat Club directly.

Meet Ralph🐶🐾
He came to see us today for his castration 💚

Thinking about castrating your dog?

There are many benefits to castration, including:

✅ Prevents testicular cancer
✅ Reduces the risk of prostate problems
✅ Can help reduce roaming in search of a mate
✅ May reduce urine marking and some hormone-driven behaviours
✅ Helps prevent unwanted pregnancies

Common myths about castration:

❌ "My dog will become overweight."
Weight gain is linked to diet and exercise, not the procedure itself.

❌ "My dog will lose his personality."
Your dog's loving, playful personality won't change.

❌ "My dog should have a litter first."
There is no health benefit to allowing a male dog to father a litter before castration.

❌ "It's cruel."
The procedure is performed under general anaesthetic with pain relief, and most dogs recover quickly.

If you'd like advice on whether castration is right for your dog, our team is always happy to help. 🩺🐾

Ava was in with us today for some investigations❤️🐾

Using ultrasound, we were able to take a closer look and help build a clearer picture of what’s going on. Our vet Liz has got to the bottom of why Ava has not been feeling her best, she has heart disease😔 While a diagnosis of heart disease can be worrying, early detection allows us to put the best management plan in place and help keep Ava comfortable and happy.

She was an absolute star throughout her visit and enjoyed plenty of fuss. We’re all wishing you well, Ava! 🐱💕

🐾 Meet Teddy! 🐾

Teddy came to see us after his owners noticed a lump on his head that seemed to appear out of nowhere. After investigating the swelling, we discovered it was actually a large abscess hidden beneath the skin.

Our team drained the abscess and got Teddy started on the treatment he needs. He's been a very brave boy throughout the process💚

Wishing Teddy a speedy recovery and plenty of treats and cuddles at home. 🐶✨

🌸 Exciting news for May! 🌸

As many of you know, May is expecting a little one and today's her last day at West Wickham. We would like to wish her all the very best as she prepares for this exciting new chapter.

May has been a valued member of our team, and while we'll miss seeing her at the practice, we're so happy for her and her growing family. Please join us in wishing her lots of love, happiness, and good luck as she awaits the arrival of her baby! 💕👶💐

Juno has been keeping us on our toes! 🐾

Juno came in for x-rays and an ultrasound as we continue to investigate what's been making her feel under the weather. While we still don't have all the answers yet, the good news is that we've been able to rule out a number of possible causes, helping us get one step closer to finding out what's going on.

A huge well done to Juno for being such a brave girl throughout all her tests, and thank you to her owners for their patience while we work to get to the bottom of things.💚
