About Us

Our charity is based on the belief that all animals deserve a loving and comfortable home and meeting these needs are of the utmost importance. Our entire team is committed to getting results for the animals in our care and we all work towards the goal of creating a loving environment, whether in our care or in their new homes, our charity aims to promote health and well being in all th

e animals we care for. The History

Animal Aid was founded in 1990 by Susan Geeleher and Kay Sheridan and was granted charitable status in September 1990 by the Charity Commission, registered charity no 1143133. Its main aims are to rescue abused and abandoned cats and to offer them a safe environment with any medical care that the animals require. At first we rented 6 units from private boarding kennels in Melling; we eventually were able to rent all the units and build a cattery. As the volunteer base grew, in 1992 we were offered a piece of land in Field Lane, Fazakerley at a peppercorn rent and we were able to build 12 kennels, a large cattery and a small administration unit. Unfortunately after 3 years at Field Lane, the owner sold the land for redevelopment and we had to move out. The cats are now housed in a purpose built cattery. We ensure that any person wishing to adopt any of our animals has the necessary home checks to ensure a safe and loving environment before adoption is agreed. The Charity relies on donations from the public and the income from the shop which is staffed entirely by volunteers - without their help we would not be able to function.

Little William is really enjoying his foster home with our volunteer Jan.
Jan has already changed his name to Archie and has told us after he is neutered he will be adopting our little man, so his foster home will be his permanent home. This little fella is just a bundle of joy and its hard not to fall in love with him so we understand why Jan can't part with this little guy
Amazing news for William (now Archie) ❤
Featuring Caprisun also adopted from Animal Aid ❤

Humbug and Daisy where adopted from us last month by Catherine and this is them both now all settled in their new forever home. Humbug wasn't at the rescue for too long but Daisy was at rescue for 3 years so it took her a little longer to settle into her new home. Catherine tells me Humbug acts like he's lived with her all his life and we knew it would take Daisy longer but she's doing great and all settled now.
Thank you Catherine for changing their life we are all so happy for them both ❤

What do these 3 ladies have in common ?

Apart from all being long haired beautiful fluffy girls, all 3 do not like other cats in their company.
Three different personalties that all need a loving home of their own.

Do you have the perfect home for one of our special girls.

If you are carrying around a pocket full of loose copper and never seem to spend it....why not drop it off to us at the rescue.
We've just cashed in our jar and raised nearly £300 for the rescue.
We would really appreciate your donation of loose change that will most definitely be so welcome in our aim to raise much needed funds to keep our beautiful little rescue thriving.
So next time you don't know what to do with your pocket of copper, think of us ! Collection bucket is on our counter at the charity shop 246 County Rd Walton.
Thankyou

Just look at our babygirl, the youngest member of the Animal Aid family at only 8 weeks old loving her life in foster care with vet nurse Jess.
Jess has been there for our little girl since the day she came to us so we have decided to call her Jessie after her foster mum.
This little lady is not up for adoption just yet but she is the most adorable little girl and we have all fell in love with her, am sure we will find her the most perfect home in the near future 🥰

Little update on Barry, the cat found with fly strike. After many of you shared his post to find his owner still no joy so Barry is now in our care. He has spent 5 days in alder medivet getting treatment and also has been seen by our vets too. He is doing really well but still on medication and has to go back to our vets on Sunday for a check up.
He is a really sweet boy and so good at taking his medication, He is eating well and slowly starting to settle in to the rescue.
Welcome to the Animal Aid family big boy. ❤

Fabulous news for two of our gorgeous rescues yesterday when they left our care to start a new life with their new mum Catherine.

Humbug came to us after we received a phone call from Vets for Pets in Southport telling us 3 cats had been left not far from their practice all crushed into the same cat carrier. Vets for pets tried to contact the owner on numerous occasions and they needed rescue space as the original owner did not respond, so all 3 came into us. Humbug is so gentle and loving with such a laid back attitude it was easy for Catherine to fall in love with him.

Daisy was in rescue for 3 years after coming to us heavily pregnant and gave birth to 5 premature kittens. All too weak they unfortunately did not make it and sadly passed away. Daisy would not eat and was so depressed it took a lot of love and care to help our little girl get through this. She is such a dainty girl but so playful and affectionate now but was always overlooked, so when we got a message off Catherine wanting to meet her aswell as Humbug we where over the moon.

Now in their new home, their new chapter begins and they have joined another two cats that where also adopted from Animal Aid. We wish Humbug and Daisy the best life in their new forever home and thank you Catherine for giving them a great home ❤
