🎓🐾 Graduation Week at Precious Paws! 🐾🎓
This week we celebrated our amazing Bronze, Silver and Gold Part 1 graduates! 🥹👏

So much hard work, consistency and dedication has gone into every single achievement. We know how much time our owners put in at home too, and we are incredibly proud of every team partnership that graduated this week 💙

At PP we keep our classes small so that every dog and owner gets the support they need. We build everything step by step — starting with strong foundations and progressing carefully through each level. Training is never about “quick fixes” or just obedience for us… it’s about creating calm, confident dogs and strong lifelong relationships 🐶

From puppy foundations right through to our higher level courses, everything is designed around learning in a positive, supportive and realistic way — the Precious Paws way 💙

And training is only part of what we offer…
🐾 Puppy home visits when you first bring your puppy home
🐾 Breed guidance and support choosing the right dog for your family and lifestyle
🐾 Puppy socialisation and playgroups
🐾 1:1 training and behaviour support
🐾 Hoopers Foundations course starting next week
🐾 Our Canine First Aid Course in September — already SOLD OUT! 🚑🐶

Watching our PP family grow in confidence every week is honestly one of the best parts of what we do 🥹 Thank you for trusting us with your dogs and allowing us to be part of your journey.

Choosing the Right Dog Matters 🐾

One of the biggest mistakes people make when choosing a dog is falling in love with the look of a breed without understanding what that dog was actually bred to do.

Within many breeds there can be a HUGE difference between show lines and working lines — and choosing the wrong match for your lifestyle can leave both the dog and owner struggling.

Think of it like this…
A working line dog is a bit like a Formula 1 car 🏎️
Built for performance, speed, stamina and a job to do.
A show line dog is more like a comfortable family saloon 🚗
Still beautiful, capable and active, but generally bred with a calmer lifestyle in mind.
Neither is “better” than the other — they are simply designed for different purposes.

Working line dogs often need:
🐾 Much more mental stimulation
🐾 Structured training
🐾 Daily outlets for drive and energy
🐾 Jobs, tasks and engagement
🐾 Owners experienced with active breeds
Without this, many can develop frustration behaviours such as:
⚠️ Hyperactivity
⚠️ Obsessive behaviours
⚠️ Reactivity
⚠️ Destructive behaviour
⚠️ Inability to switch off

Show line dogs are often more suited to typical family life, while still enjoying training, enrichment and exercise.
At Precious Paws we always encourage people to research not just the breed… but the line within the breed too. A dog should fit your lifestyle, not the other way around ❤️
Because when the match is right, everybody wins 🐶

☀️ A lovely sunny Wednesday for the daycare crew 🐾💦
The dogs had so much fun in their cool coats with plenty of treat bobbing, splashing in the pool and lots of water zoomies! After a busy morning of fun, everyone settled down for a chilled afternoon nap in the shade 🐶💛

Remember to keep your dogs cool and hydrated in the hot weather ☀️💧

Tuesday daycare ☀️🐾
Some early morning fun for the pups today before the temperatures started to rise. As the heat increased, it was time for everything to slow down, stay calm and head indoors. Even in the shade, these temperatures simply are not safe for dogs to be outside for long periods.

All the pups wore cool coats today, which were checked every 20 minutes and re-wet/cooled as needed 💦 We swapped active play for lots of calm enrichment, chew time, cuddles and snoozing 😴🦴
As our owners know, our policy at Precious Paws is to close if temperatures reach 30°C to ensure the dogs remain safe. We made that decision today, and as always our amazing owners fully supported it, attending promptly to collect their dogs by 2.30/3pm ❤️

Higher-risk breeds have been advised to stay home today and Thursday, and those attending tomorrow have had sessions adjusted to earlier times, leaving by midday before the hottest part of the day.
We appreciate this may occasionally cause inconvenience, but dog welfare will always come before everything else at PP.

Thankfully, our wonderful clients share those same values 🐶❤️

Early morning puppy playgroup yesterday before the weather got too warm ☀️🐾 and what a lovely session it was.
This week our pups learned “place” — helping them build calmness, focus and the ability to settle around distractions. We then balanced the learning with some carefully managed playtime before finishing with calm down work using “go find”.
“Go find” is such a valuable game to practice at home too 🐶💛
Not only does it encourage sniffing and natural enrichment, it also helps puppies learn that being away from you for short periods is safe and positive. Building confidence and independence in tiny steps like this can really help prevent clinginess and support healthy emotional development as they grow.
We also finished with a really important chat for pawrents around key canine first aid tips and keeping dogs safe during the warmer weather 🌡️💦
At Precious Paws we’re passionate about balanced socialisation — not just play, but learning, rest, confidence building and calmness too. The Precious Paws way 🐾

Puppies are not miniature adult dogs ❤️
Their bones, joints, brains and emotions are still developing, and too much stimulation, excitement or prolonged daycare can do more harm than good.

Young puppies need: 🐾 Short, structured sessions
🐾 Calm enrichment and positive experiences
🐾 Plenty of rest and recovery
🐾 Around 18–20 hours sleep every day

Overtired puppies are far more likely to become over-aroused, mouthy, unable to settle and overwhelmed. Excessive exercise and long periods of stimulation can also place strain on developing joints and growth plates.

At Precious Paws we will always put welfare before profit. That’s why our puppy sessions are short, structured and carefully managed around each individual puppy’s age, confidence and development.

Sometimes less really is more 💛

☀️ HOT WEATHER WARNING ☀️

As temperatures rise this weekend, please remember that dogs can struggle in the heat far more quickly than we do. Every summer we sadly see cases of heatstroke that could have been prevented 💔

At Precious Paws we’ve been keeping all our daycare pups safe with:💦 Fresh drinking water at all times🌳 Shade, gazebos and cool indoor spaces🧊 Cooling coats and paddling pools🦴 Calm enrichment like chew toys and sniffari activities instead of overexcitement😴 Plenty of rest and chill time

⚠️ Signs of overheating can include:• Excessive panting• Drooling• Lethargy or weakness• Vomiting• Wobbling or collapse• Bright red gums or glazed eyes

🐾 PLEASE DO:✔ Walk early morning or later evening✔ Check pavement temperatures with your hand✔ Keep dogs cool and hydrated✔ Allow plenty of rest

🐾 PLEASE DON’T:✖ Leave dogs in cars — even “for a minute”✖ Overexercise in hot weather✖ Assume all dogs cope well with heat✖ Ignore early signs of overheating

Young puppies, older dogs, flat-faced breeds and dogs carrying extra weight are particularly at risk.

If in doubt — keep them cool, keep them calm, and skip the walk ❤️
