Bloat / torsion is one of the most dangerous emergencies in dogs, especially in deep chested breeds. A dog’s stomach can fill with gas and twist, cutting off blood supply and becoming life threatening very quickly.
One thing that can help reduce the risk is feeding once per day in the evening when your dog is settled and relaxed, rather than around high activity. I also always recommend waiting around 2 hours before and after exercise before feeding to avoid heavy movement on a full stomach.
Prevention and good management can make a huge difference 🙏
Know the signs:
• Bloated stomach
• Retching without bringing anything up
• Pacing or distress
• Excessive drooling
• Weakness or collapse
If you ever suspect torsion, get to a vet immediately. Time matters.
Have you ever heard of gastric torsion before? 👇🐾
