We are signing off for Christmas!!!

Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for another fantastic year! You’ve kept us busy, supported and entertained throughout! Thank you for your support with our loss of Martha - there are a lot of firsts and the dog walk today was one of them & that hit hard on arrival today 😢

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you all in 2026! Our socials will be quieter and so will our responses - we will all be taking a break away from work and the salons will be back in action fully week commencing 5th Jan

Eat, sleep & be merry! Lots of love The Bearded Pooch team

A huge shoutout and thank you to the amazing people at The Bearded Pooch who have worked so hard and kept Alex & I supported with so much that people do not see but it means so much - love you all!

Goodnight Martha ❤️‍🩹💔

Tonight we said our last goodnight to our beautiful Martha - almost 13 years old and we wish you could have stayed longer but unfortunately you were wanted elsewhere - who can blame them - you were an amazing pretty perfect little girl that just wanted love 24/7. Mother to Mavis and Alex’s favourite 🤫

You really were the most perfectly behaved and most loved girl there has ever been. You fell asleep tonight surrounded by those that love you the most in the comfort of your home eating liver pâté 😋

You’ll be missed by so many people - your aunties - you had lots of them, friends and all the family - even people that didn’t like dogs loved Martha - the most gentle soul anyone could wish for - you have a left a huge whole in our lives but you can now run pain free - say hi to Euston who I’m sure will be pleased to see you 💙🖤

Thank you to .therainbow for the most perfect goodbye ❤️‍🩹

💜💫 Groomphoria 2025 💫💜

🥈2nd Model Dog with Miss Poppy
🥈2nd Teams Event with , & .k9.grooming

Entering a 2 day grooming competition & 4 classes after seeing FIVE in Birmingham the day before possibly wasn’t the best idea - tiredness & adrenaline hit new levels 🤪

I entered 4 classes - Model Dog, Team Event, Asian Open with Myrtle & Workshop Crossbreed Open with Lacie. Over the moon with 2nd place for my model dog - there were some amazing entries so it was a shock to get 2nd & huge congratulations to for 3rd place! Honour to stand up there with you! 💜 Then I entered the teams event with Jodie, Cass & Nissa - 4 completely different groomers - never worked on a dog together before and we went and bagged a 2nd place! Loved this class - 30mins each on the gorgeous Misty!

I also entered Myrtle our Miniature Schnauzer - no placing unfortunately but I wasn’t overly happy with the groom - not enough growth and she was a little out of character - possibly due to just finishing a season. However we got great feedback and we may try again next year!

Finally I also entered Lacie a Cockapoo who I am currently trimming into a Wheaten Terrier. Thank you for allowing me to do this! No placing unfortunately and we are awaiting feedback - it was a big class with incredibly high standards!

Huge congratulations to my competition bestie on her 2nd place in clipper only! Congratulations to on your 2nd place with Toney in the poodle class! Finally well done to .k9.grooming (my first student) on completing a fantastic groom with fantastic feedback in the immediate class!

Well done to all that placed over the weekend - I am loving being back into the competition chaos and making new friends along the way! Love chatting during the competition - calms the nerves so much! Competitions are not for the faint hearted - they are exhausting and so much work goes into doing these but so much is learnt along the way 🤓

Christmas……

Personally Christmas for me (Gemma) is not something I enjoy - the day itself - yes but the build up - not so much.

I put a lot of pressure on myself to ensure we all have full diaries to secure a steady income, I put pressure on myself to design to “correct” package - including a pretty but an original backdrop for the photos, appropriate gifts for the packages, thank you gifts for our customers that suit the majority, correct festive shampoos, sprays and products. Finding the time & funds to stock both salons with all the above along with the day to day bits is also very difficult. The end of the year also marks signing off students last days, assessments and theory work. Alongside choosing appropriate decorations, dealing with damp, general day to day salon cleanliness, illnesses and scheduling of appointments to make sure everyone is where they need to be. The important Bearded Pooch Christmas outing and secret Santa is also on that list! This is among the “usual” personal Christmas prep, general life, kids & dogs…

My point - it all gets to the point about now that I question “is it worth it?” Standing back and seeing the salon and academy looking like this makes me feel like yes it is worth it and seeing the dogs in their Christmas pictures is the cherry on top of the cake!

Anyway - thank you all for supporting us throughout the year and for these final few weeks! Spaces are limited but we have the final few apps available over the next couple weeks!

Also - Good luck to all the other groomers that are on the approach to their busiest weeks of the year! We’ve got this! 💪🏻 ☕️ 🎄

Our Story

We are a husband and wife team - Gemma and Alex! We have both lived in Leicester all our life and up until 2014 we both worked in an office doing a 9am - 5pm shift. However, Gemma was made redundant and whilst this is generally taken as bad news, Gemma took this as an opportunity to start something new and something that she enjoys. Dog grooming has been something that Gemma has been interested in since she bought home Euston at 8 weeks old (he's the handsome man on the home page) - he is a Giant Schnauzer. Gemma has groomed him since he was a young puppy and he is who we have to thank for getting us both into grooming professionally. Dogs are amazing animals and they never fail to make you laugh. You cannot beat the love and happiness that they give you that moment you walk in the house after being away from them.

After being made redundant Gemma decided to gain a professional qualification in dog grooming. She gained her City & Guilds Level 2 for Dog Grooming Assistants qualification in April 2014. Although the City & Guilds qualification is not a requirement to move into a dog grooming career, she felt that she could not go into this industry until she had gained a full understanding in regards to the care and grooming requirements of some many different and amazing breeds of dogs. After only 18 months into starting the business Gemma was full and had to close her books to any new customers. At this point Gemma decided to train Alex in the hope that we could get Alex to the standard of a fully trained dog groomer to be able re-open the books to new customers. Alex succeeded and took delivery of his mobile grooming van in March 2018.

He got so busy that he took the decision to also leave his 9am - 5pm job in May 2019 and has been working as a full time dog groomer ever since and never ever looked back! We are both extremely passionate about dogs and the joy that they bring to their families. We find an amazing amount of satisfaction in beautifying these amazing animals.

Ok, that is a very short snapshot of us - we hope to meet you very soon!!
