🦷🩺 - Morgan

Meet Morgan, our dental focussed nurse who works alongside our dental focussed vet Danny at our Glenfield Hospital site. Morgan is currently completing a nursing certificate in small animal dentistry and thoroughly enjoys supporting clients and their pets with dental care.

Morgan offers specific nurse consultations in relation to oral hygiene - these cover various different elements of oral health including how to brush your pet's teeth. Morgan also supports with post-operative care and management of the patients who have dental procedures at Glenfield.

Morgan also performs scaling and polishing of teeth & dental radiography and administers dental nerve blocks as well as helping to train other members of staff in nursing dental skills.

Morgan finds it very rewarding to see patients returning to a happier, more comfortable version of themselves after dental treatment.

🦎 - Dobbie

Meet Dobbie, a male chameleon who initially presented to our Glenfield emergency service last month.

Dobbie presented after his owners had noticed he had a prolapse of his p***s (see photo). This condition can be painful and lead to significant complications and so prompt assessment and treatment is essential. On initial presentation, Dobbie appeared well in himself and so our team replaced the pr*****ed p***s and advised close monitoring as recurrence is possible.

Unfortunately, the prolapse recurred the following day which required Dobbie to have surgical amputation of the affected part of his p***s. Vet Monika together with nurse Clare performed the surgery on Dobbie and we are delighted to say he made a full recovery and was discharged the same day.

Chameleons have a unique reproductive system, having two separate p***ses which sit in their own pocket. This means that in cases such as Dobbie's where surgery is required, the impact on them is minimal.

A really interesting case and a lovely patient for our team to look after. Glad you are on the mend Dobbie!

🐾😺

We have recently seen a significant increase in the number of cats suffering with Feline Panleukopaenia Virus both here at Park Vet Group and reported in the surrounding area.

The virus can affect cats of any age, with mortality rates of up to 90% reported in young kittens. The clinical signs associated with the virus are:
❗Fever
❗Vomiting and diarrhoea
❗Lethargy
❗Reduced appetite
❗Wobbly kittens
❗Sudden death (particularly in younger cats)

The treatment of affected cats focuses on supportive care whilst their body fights the infection and requires isolation and barrier nursing due to the contagious nature of the disease.

We suspect that the rise in cases is due to a reduction in the number of vaccinated cats in the population. Feline Panleukopenia can be prevented with vaccination and we would strongly recommend that you keep your cat's vaccinations up to date.

If you are unsure if your cat is vaccinated or when your vaccinations are due, please contact your usual branch directly and our team will be happy to help you.

If you wish to arrange an appointment for vaccination, you can do so online here: https://ow.ly/Fns850X7PFc or by contacting your usual branch and selecting option 2 to be put through to make a routine appointment.

🐾❗️ Can you help us find the owners?

We have several strays in with us at the moment and we need help locating their owners as we would love to reunite them.

🐾Stray 1: Tabby cat (currently at Scraptoft Lane)
This male entire cat was handed in to our Scraptoft Lane branch earlier today (2/10/25) by a member of the public. He does not have a chip but is very friendly so we feel he is likely to be owned. He has an injury to his hindleg for which he is receiving first aid treatment whilst we try to locate an owner.

🐾Stray 2: Cockatiel handed in to our Glenfield hospital by a member of the public today (2/10/25). Seems to be healthy with no signs of injury or illness.

🐾Stray 3: Tabby kitten
This stray kitten was handed in to our Glenfield hospital by a member of the public on 1/10/25. Female entire cat with no chip or collar.

🐾Stray 4: Black & white cat
This cat was handed in to our Glendield hospital by a member of the public. Found near Glen Parva. Male entire with no chip or collar. Has received first aid for mild car flu signs but seems otherwise well.

🐾Stray 5: Tortoisehell long hair cat
This cat was handed in to our Glenfield hospital over the weekend by a member of the public. There was a suspicion they had a tail injury but on further examination it was just matted fur. This cat is microchipped but the details are not up to date and the address is not local. We have emailed the contact on file but have not heard back.

If you think you are the owner of any of these cats or cockatiel please call Glenfield between 8am-7pm on 0116 231 1635 (select option 3 to be put through to a member of the hospital team). If you think you are the owner of stray cat 1 please call Scraptoft Lane between 8am-7pm on 0116 241 8326 (select option 2).

Thank you - no further details will be shared on social media so please contact the practice if you think you are the owner. Proof of ownership will be required.

- Mia 🐱🐾

Mia recently presented to our out-of-hours service at Glenfield after her owner noticed that she had eaten part of her toy.

Due to the size of the piece of toy ingested, without treatment Mia was at risk of an intestinal obstruction. Therefore, the team initially attempted to make Mia sick which unfortunately did not result in the toy being produced. After discussion with Mia's owner, Mia then underwent a procedure called a gastroscopy to retrieve the foreign body.

Gastroscopy is performed under anaesthetic and involves passing a camera down the oesophagus and into the stomach. In Mia's case the procedure went ahead without complication and as you can see from the photos - the piece of toy was successfully retrieved, preventing any further problems for Mia.

Mia made a full recovery from her anaesthetic and was discharged the following day.

Our out-of-hours team are on hand whenever the practice is closed to provide emergency care to pets that need us, just like Mia did on this occasion.

We are so glad you are back to normal Mia 🐾😺💖

Photos show Mia during her recovery, the piece of toy the team removed from her stomach and the toy she had a good old chew on!
