Did someone say dog social?

Had a lovely time as always at Kulture Coffee for .

We met a couple of new dogs, had some great chats, snacks, drinks, and doggo cuddles.

Come down next month, the third Wednesday of the month, but this time it will be our AGM and there will be food!! (More info to come).

Have you or someone been refused access to an Uber in Leeds City Council because of your assistance dog?

We are again taking action with the rising Uber refusals since Uber has put their "Assistance Dog" check box in their app.

Leeds City Council have always been supportive, but we need the public to come forward with instances and report their concerns so that we can take action against Uber in Leeds.

We want Leeds to be a welcoming and accessible place for trained assistance dogs and hold Uber accountable.

For reference, the new system is optional on the Uber app, but when booking the driver is notified that you have an assistance dog just before they arrive to pick you up.

When they cancel the journey it notifies Uber to make a complaint, but there is no evidence that this gets taken any further and this does not accommodate the discrimination under the equality act, nor does it make up for missed appointments, unnecessary pain for extended wait time, more expense for carer expenses, etc.

Whilst this is for Leeds, we hope that our work will shape better practices for the UK and we will always advocate for the wider area for the benefit of disabled people and their doggos 🐾💚

Volunteer Director Opportunity

Pawsitive Action Leeds CIC

Help shape the future of assistance dog support, disability advocacy, and accessible communities in Leeds.

Pawsitive Action Leeds CIC is looking for a passionate and values-driven individual to join our Board of Directors.

We are a community interest company founded by disabled people, for disabled people, providing assistance dog support, dog training, advocacy, education, and community projects across Leeds and beyond.

This is a voluntary, unpaid Director position, offering a flexible commitment and the opportunity to help guide a growing organisation making a real difference in people's lives.

About You

We are particularly interested in hearing from people who have:

- Lived experience of disability, chronic illness, neurodivergence, mental health conditions, or access barriers.
- Experience of owning, handling, or training assistance dogs.
- A passion for disability rights, inclusion, accessibility, and community empowerment.
- A commitment to positive, ethical, welfare-focused dog training.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and actively encourage applications from disabled, neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+, and otherwise underrepresented communities.

Desirable Experience

While not essential, experience in any of the following areas would be particularly valuable:

- SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities)
- Advocacy and casework
- Assistance dog training
- Canine behaviour and welfare
- Community development
- Bid writing and fundraising
- Charity, CIC, or voluntary sector governance
- Marketing and communications
- Training delivery and public speaking
- Volunteer management
- Project management

What You'll Do

As a Director, you will help:

- Shape the strategic direction of Pawsitive Action Leeds CIC.
- Ensure we remain true to our values and mission.
- Support good governance and decision-making.
- Contribute your skills, knowledge, and lived experience.
- Champion accessibility, inclusion, and canine welfare.

Opportunities Within the Role

While the Director position itself is unpaid, there may be opportunities to undertake paid subcontracted work related to PAL CIC projects, depending on your skills and availability.

Examples may include:

- Assistance dog training and support.
- Delivering assistance dog awareness sessions.
- Advocacy and disability support work.
- Workshop facilitation.
- Consultancy and specialist projects.

Any paid work would be offered separately from the Director role and managed in line with our conflict-of-interest policies.

Commitment

- Flexible and remote-friendly.
- Attendance at Director meetings (typically online).
- Occasional involvement in events, projects, and planning activities.
- We understand that disability can affect availability and are committed to providing reasonable adjustments and accessible ways of participating.

Pawsitive Action Leeds CIC can confirm that Robyn Brockie has resigned from her position as Director with immediate effect.

We would like to thank Robyn for the time, energy and passion she brought to the organisation during her involvement with PAL CIC and wish her and Marnie all the best for the future.

The resignation follows differences in professional opinion regarding assistance dog training, standards and organisational governance. While we recognise that individuals may hold differing views, PAL CIC remains committed to evidence-based training, canine welfare, legal compliance, and maintaining clear standards around assistance dogs and assistance dogs in training.

As this relates to internal organisational matters and former personnel, we will not be commenting further publicly.

Members may also be aware of the Facebook group "Pawsitive Pals". As this group is no longer affiliated with or managed by Pawsitive Action Leeds CIC, any information from this group is no longer officially from PAL CIC and may no longer reflect our values.

We will be launching a new official PAL CIC community group shortly and will share details with our clients, volunteers, supporters and community members once it is ready.

Our focus remains on supporting disabled people, promoting canine welfare, and continuing the work of Pawsitive Action Leeds CIC within our community.

We can't believe it's been a year since we became a CIC already! (July).

We'd love to celebrate our year with you all, and yes, there will be food....(Got your attention now? 😉).

We'll be going over what we've accomplished, what we plan to do, opportunities, etc and it's a good chance to have your say and shape what we do, because, PAL CIC is for the community afterall!

Bring your family, your friends, etc and if you know any community groups, etc that we aren't currently connected with yet, such as SEND, etc, bring them along.

Due to the hot weather and unpredictability we have chosen to cancel our dog walking social for the safety of our humans and dog.

We are sorry for any inconvenience.

We believe the welfare of our dogs comes first and we just cannot take the risk.

Today is International Day of Action on Women’s Health.

For generations, women have fought to be listened to, believed, and given autonomy over our own bodies and healthcare. Yet too many still experience dismissal, gatekeeping, misdiagnosis, and having their pain minimised.

Our first ever guest blog, written by Paws Kesby, explores why medical misogyny doesn’t stop at cis women, and how many trans people, particularly those perceived as women or needing access to gendered healthcare services, can encounter strikingly similar experiences of not being listened to, believed, or treated with dignity within healthcare systems.

These experiences are not identical. But they are connected.

If we want healthcare systems that truly respect bodily autonomy, informed consent, and compassionate care, solidarity matters.
