✅ Do they drink more or have a wetter bed than last year?
✅ Bulging of the hollow above the eyes?
✅Recurring infections, foot abscesses or Laminitis?

It looks like we have some very wet & wild weather heading our way which no doubt will take its toll on our fields. ☔️🌧️🌊
👀🐴Keep an eye on your horses for changes to their skin.

‼️Mud rash/fever appears on horses legs, with the increased exposure to damp conditions the skin softens allowing bacteria to enter the skin causing an infection.
Legs can become sore with scabs, become swollen and this can also cause lameness.

‼️Rain scald again caused by bacteria entering the skin, scabs form in places along the horse’s neck, back and hindquarters.
These scabs come off in tufts of hair that stick up.

If you wish to discuss your horse, how to treat, help prevent mud fever or rain scald please call the practice to discuss with one of our team. 💜

🎉📸And our winner is ….

Paddy 25years young, who has been with the practice for 18years.
He has recently retired after a long and busy life starting as a hunting horse in Ireland then spending his time with me enjoying eventing, show jumping, riding club, endurance, hacking and taking younger jockeys to Pony Club.

Interesting fact - he once had a ‘foreign object’ in his leg which turned out to be a piece of branch he must have laid on in the field, the investigation and removal of it was part of a veterinarian paper used for students.

What a lovely boy Paddy is. Helping the future generation of vets too.
Enjoy your treats courtesy of Thistle Equine Team💜

Thanks to you all for the lovely entries, it’s so nice for the team to hear more about your horses. 📸💜
