๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒผ Happy Bank Holiday Monday! ๐ŸŒผ๐Ÿพ

We hope youโ€™re all enjoying the long weekend with your pets ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ Whether youโ€™re relaxing at home or making the most of the sunshine, itโ€™s a great time to spend together ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ”ฅ Planning a BBQ? Keep pets safe:
BBQs can be risky for curious paws, so here are a few quick tips:
๐Ÿ” Keep cooked and raw foods out of reach (especially bones, skewers & corn cobs)
๐Ÿซ Watch out for toxic foods like onions, garlic, chocolate & alcohol
๐Ÿ”ฅ Never leave pets unattended near hot BBQs or disposable grills
๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ Secure bin bags โ€“ leftovers can be very tempting (and dangerous!)
Even small scraps can cause big problems, so itโ€™s best to keep treats pet-safe only โœ…

If you have any concerns over the bank holiday, remember:
๐Ÿ’ฌ Pawsitive Plan members can access 24/7 advice via Vidivet
๐Ÿš‘ Emergency care is provided by Vets Now on 01299 333 335 (press 9)

๐ŸŒก๏ธ Heatwave Warning โ€“ Keep All Pets Safe This Bank Holiday Weekend ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

With temperatures set to reach 32ยฐC, this heat can be dangerous โ€“ even life-threatening โ€“ for our pets.

๐Ÿ• For dogs:
๐Ÿ”ฅ Hot pavements burn paws
If you canโ€™t hold your hand down for 5 seconds, itโ€™s too hot to walk.
๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ Walk early morning or late evening only, and bring water.

๐Ÿš— Never leave pets in cars
Even with windows open, temperatures rise rapidly.

โš ๏ธ Signs of heatstroke:
โ€ข Excessive panting
โ€ข Drooling
โ€ข Lethargy or collapse
โ€ข Vomiting

If you see any of these signs remember "Wet, then Vet". Get your pet wet ๐Ÿ’ฆ (don't worry too much about the water temperature, whatever is available as long as it's not really hot), get them into a cool breeze, fan or air conditioning ๐Ÿชญ and get them to an emergency vet ๐Ÿš‘ as soon as possible.

๐Ÿฑ For cats:
Cats often hide when theyโ€™re unwellโ€”so be extra vigilant.
โœ”๏ธ Provide shaded, cool resting spots
โœ”๏ธ Refresh water frequently
โœ”๏ธ Encourage drinking (multiple bowls / water fountains)

๐Ÿฐ For rabbits/guinea pigs: (extremely sensitive to heat)
โš ๏ธ Small pets can suffer heatstroke very quickly
โœ”๏ธ Keep enclosures out of direct sun and remove any covers
โœ”๏ธ Bring indoors or into a cool shaded area if possible
โœ”๏ธ Use frozen water bottles wrapped in towels for cooling
โœ”๏ธ Ensure constant fresh water

โ˜€๏ธ Letโ€™s keep all our pets safe while we enjoy the sunshine ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿพ Lyme Disease Awareness ๐Ÿพ

As the weather warms up, ticks become much more active โ€” and with them comes the risk of Lyme disease for our dogs (and people too).

๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ Ticks are commonly found in:
โ€ข Long grass
โ€ข Wooded areas
โ€ข Parks and countryside walks

โš ๏ธ Signs of Lyme disease in dogs can include:
โ€ข Lethargy
โ€ข Lameness or stiffness
โ€ข Loss of appetite
โ€ข Fever
The tricky part? Signs donโ€™t always appear straight away, so prevention is key.

โœ… How to protect your pet:
โ€ข Use regular tick prevention treatments
โ€ข Check your dog after walks (especially around ears, neck, and paws)
โ€ข Remove ticks promptly and safely

If you ever spot a tick or notice any of the signs above, donโ€™t hesitate to get in touch with us โ€” weโ€™re always happy to help ๐Ÿ’™
Letโ€™s keep your pets safe while they enjoy the great outdoors! ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿถ
