🐾 A Little Favour for Our Hydro Pups! 🐾
Hey everyone! As the colder, wetter weather settles in, it’s becoming a bit trickier for us to keep up with washing and drying all the towels after each hydrotherapy session.
We’d really appreciate it if owners could start bringing a towel (or two!) for their dogs to use after their swim. This will help us keep things running smoothly and ensure every pup stays warm and cosy after their session.
Thank you so much

Ok, so we are a little late to the party! But September is pain awareness month, so we thought this would be a great opportunity to explore how our canine companions may show they are in discomfort.

This lovely boy is staff dog Alfie, he is 11 years old now, but when he was around 4 years old he began to show signs that something was not right. He was always a nervous dog, but he became increasingly anxious and reactive towards strangers and other dogs. He developed extreme noise sensitivity and was extremely guarded when dried after a walk. He also would bite at his hindlimbs, chase his tail and suddenly start looking at his hind end. Here is the thing though, he was never lame and he never cried out. He still carried on living life to the full, typical Spaniel!

He was eventually referred to Willows Referral Centre, and examined by an orthopaedic specialist. He demonstrated consistent discomfort on palpation of his lumbosacral joint; he was in a lot of pain but had hidden it so well up to that point. He was started on Gabapentin and was quickly a different dog! So what sort of signs can we look out for, this is not an exhaustive list:

New or increased sensitivity to noise
Separation anxiety
Self mutilation ie licking or chewing at certain joints or areas of the body.
Panting out of context.
Reactivity towards other dogs or people.
Sudden anxiety during travel, when have previously travelled in the car well.
Sleeping more/less.
Inability to settle.

Please contact our friendly team on 01299 250473 to discuss how Physiotherapy and Hydrotherapy could help if you are noting any of these signs/symptoms.

N.B we do require a referral from your Veterinary Surgeon but we are able to help to arrange this.
