Over the last 10 years people seem to have forgotten that many dogs were bred for a job and cockers have definitely fallen foul of this more than other breeds possibly due to the fact that they look like cute little Disney characters.

This isn't a rant at people saying not to have the breed, but look further than the appearance and size and understand what you need to do as an owner to harness and fulfill their instincts and genetics. A snuffle mat a day is not going to cut it.

We help many spaniel owners live fun filled stress free lives with their dogs but it starts but admitting you don't have a lap dog but a highly driven working machine.

If we are always asking our dogs to do things they become reliant on it and when we go quiet feel they don't need to pay attention. Work smarter not harder. Obviously engagement is a small piece of the larger training puzzle but it's an important piece of the foundations.
