🌎 World Mental Health Day.

🥰 Did you know that today is World Mental Health Day?

😁 74% of pet owners say that owning a pet has improved their mental health. Studies show that human-animal interaction increases oxytocin levels in the brain, resulting in a sense of calm, comfort and focus.

😞 Owning a pet can help reduce anxiety, stress, depression and loneliness.

🌳 How often have you woken up thinking you can't be bothered to do anything? Then you take the dog for a walk and that lovely blast of fresh air clears your mind and makes you feel better?

🐕 I've always been open as to how Vinnie and Dobby have helped me through some tough times over the years. I'm sure your pets have done the same.

😪 wasn't very happy that Vinnie got all of the attention yesterday. This meant that he decided lastnight was the ideal time to have sickness and diarrhea.

💩 Not gonna lie......there was loads of poo, where does it all come from? Thank goodness for wooden floors. However getting on the sofa every time he needed to be sick was certainly my highlight of the night!

🤢 A trip to this morning and some medication means he is on his way to getting better.

👩🏼‍⚕️ He was such a good boy when the vet was examining him. It really proved that commands for him to go on all fours, open his mouth and keep still are vital when needed.

🌡 He may have had a grumble when his temperature was checked but I don't think any of us would be happy about that!

🤞 Hopefully a good night's sleep (for both of us) and some bland food will mean he's back to his crazy self in no time.

👋 Say hello to Poppy the Working Cocker Spaniel.

Poppy’s owners came to me for help because, unlike most Spaniels… Poppy doesn’t actually like to walk! 🐕‍🦺

The first step was to rule out any health issues so after a full vet check and a pain trial, we began working together. We met in various locations so I could see Poppy in action (or not, as the case sometimes was! 😅).

It quickly became clear that Poppy can be a nervous girl. Living in the countryside means cars, trains, and built up areas can all feel pretty overwhelming for her. She also prefers to have the choice to walk, rather than being forced, which is completely fair. (And no, we definitely don’t recommend “tapping” her on the bum with a foot as one trainer once suggested! 🤦🏼‍♀️)

We made some key adjustments, including introducing a long training line for use away from roads, updating her equipment, teaching new commands such as “middle” and “touch,” and gradually building her confidence with every session.

And the best part, Poppy walked all the way around Kingston Field last week 🎉. To some, that might not sound like much but for Poppy and her human, it’s a huge milestone and a sign of amazing progress.

She’s still got a way to go (excuse the pun), but she’s definitely getting there.

Poppy the Shih-Poo has just completed her 1-2-1 Puppy Course and what a little star she’s been! ✨

Poppy’s human is an experienced dog owner, but training methods have evolved a lot since they last had a puppy. So, we focused on the most up-to-date techniques including clicker training and positive reinforcement. Poppy’s human took to it almost as quickly as Poppy did! 👏

Being a typical puppy who loves attention, we worked on calmness and lead walking. Because Poppy is so cute, everyone wants to say hello which can get her a bit overexcited and leave her human managing the bouncy aftermath! She’s now learning that she can calmly walk past people… though it’s hard not to melt when those puppy eyes look up at you! 🥹

Well done, Poppy and well done, human! 🐾

❤️ I can't believe this amazing dog is 3 years old today!

🥰 He's the most loving big lump in the world. He genuinely still thinks he is 8kg, channels the inner Boxer by jumping up at everyone and gives the best cuddles.

🐕 Never change Dobby......but if you do make sure it's to calm down a bit!

👋 Say hello to Luna the Samoyed.

Luna has just completed her 1-2-1 Puppy Course and what an absolute superstar she’s been! ✨

All the puppies we work with are happy, but Luna is on another level. She absolutely loved her training and gave 110% every single lesson. This also meant she tired herself out quickly and took a little power nap during every session 😴 but as soon as her batteries were recharged, she was raring to go again!

Her humans took everything on board and were open to our recommendations… even if ChatGPT had other ideas 🤦🏼‍♀️

We’re lucky enough to be seeing Luna again soon as she joins our Beyond Basics course. It’s always such a joy watching our puppies grow into confident, well rounded dogs and we’re sure Luna will be one of them.
