With the warm weather continuing, we thought everyone would like to know how we are keeping our horses comfortable and happy during the heat. ☀️🐴

Any beach rides are currently taking place early in the morning, around 7am. This allows us to enjoy a lovely ride before temperatures begin to rise and helps prevent the horses from overheating. After returning from the beach, all horses are washed off and cooled down in our old stone barn, which stays beautifully cool — often 10 to 15 degrees cooler than outside.

All lessons are continuing in our indoor school, providing a much cooler environment for both horses and riders. Lessons are also being adapted with slower-paced work and regular refreshment breaks.

Rides out around the farm are helped by our location on top of the hill, where we are fortunate to benefit from a constant breeze and cooler conditions.

Between all sessions, horses are untacked, hosed off, and carefully monitored to ensure they remain comfortable throughout the day.

As always, our horses’ welfare is our absolute priority. If temperatures become too high for safe riding, sessions will be cancelled accordingly.

Thank you to everyone for your understanding and support while we work to keep both horses and riders safe and comfortable during the warmer weather. ❤️

HORSE ALLOCATION POLICY

At our riding school, learning to ride different horses is an important part of becoming a confident and capable rider.
While we always try to accommodate requests where possible, horses cannot be guaranteed and may need to change due to:

Horse welfare and workload

Rider suitability

Health or behavioural reasons

Lesson requirements

Staff decisions and safety considerations

Riders who experience different horses develop better balance, adaptability, confidence, and overall riding ability.
We ask all riders to approach horse changes positively and respectfully. Refusing to ride, becoming upset, or demanding specific horses is not acceptable behaviour.
Please understand: No rider is entitled to a particular horse.
Thank you for supporting the welfare of our horses and helping create a positive environment for everyone.

At Mullacott Equestrian Centre we spend a lot of time helping new riders discover that horse riding is so much more than just sitting on a horse.

It is balance, patience, resilience, communication, confidence, and learning to work with a living animal that has thoughts and feelings of its own 🐴

One thing we wish every new rider knew before their first lesson is this…

✨ Riding is supposed to feel hard at first
✨ Progress is never perfectly straight
✨ Bad rides happen to every rider
✨ Confidence comes through consistency
✨ The time spent grooming, tacking up, and caring for horses matters just as much as the riding itself

Most importantly — every experienced rider you admire was once the nervous beginner wondering if they were doing anything right.

If you are just starting your riding journey, welcome 🤍

You have chosen something challenging, rewarding, and genuinely life changing.

What do YOU wish someone had told you before your very first riding lesson? 👇

UPDATE!!! WE OFFICIALLY DO NOT HAVE STRANGLES!!! LESSON AND COMPETITIONS ARE BACK ON. SWABS AND BLOODS WERE TAKEN AND ITS ALL NEGATIVE. REPEAT WE DO NOT HAVE STRANGLES. Im very pleased that our yard proceedures and prorocols have worked and our emergency plan was put in place. Thank you to my amazing staff and liveries. We are back open tomorrow!!!!Strangles. Currently we have a horse being tested for Strangles. All biosecurity procedures are in place. The horse is isolated. The results will be back either tomorrow or Friday. Untill we have the test results back, all lessons, all exterior hires have been cancelled. We will await the test results and let everyone in due course know what they are as to whether we can run this sundays show jumping. If the test are negative we will run. If they are positive the competition will be cancelled and entries refunded. In the meantime please be aware of strangles symptoms and check your horses. I will update everyone as I get more information.
Many thanks
