Did anyone else enjoy the breezy afternoon?

We made the most of the wind with a few handling exercises and training into it. All supervised by my mini me. I was using the hand launcher, so she had to spectate from afar.

Introducing the latest litter of Arcklebear puppies. Thank you to Steph at for another accurate set of progesterone tests resulting in a lovely sized litter of 7. Pepsi was scanned and confirmed in pup by Jen .
Also, a big thank you to Carla and the gorgeous Husdon . Hudson and Pepsi have produced a fantastic and strong even litter.

What a wonderful weekend full of good cheer and a great atmosphere!

I would like to thank Ben Skinner and his team for the kind invitation to judge the prestigious Skinners World Cup 2026. Over the two days, I observed a showcase of excellent dog work from teams across Europe and the U.K.

The event was held at the Englefield estate by kind permission of Lord and Lady Benyon and their extremely accommodating head keeper, David Wiggins. The estate provided the most beautiful, natural setting, enabling ten fantastic tests to be set over the course of the weekend. The task of test setting lay in the very capable and experienced hands of Pete Castleman and Nikki Urquhart. All the tests were quietly challenging but doable, allowing for the best dogs and handlers to shine through.

There was healthy competition amongst teams, demonstrating great comeradarie and sportsmanship. Many congratulations to the winning Scotland team🏆 and to the top dog - Lowtreys Midsummer of Raigbegbrae handled by Paul Downs.

A huge thank you must go to the army of helpers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, enabling the event to run like clockwork. People travelled from all over the country to come and help this weekend. Some of them barely got to see more than a six foot view of the dog, as they were tucked behind trees placing blinds, or they were back at base preparing food and drink.

The ladies at Game Keepers Goods provided beautiful gifts and sponsorship, as well as keeping everyone fed and watered.

For me, the Skinner's World Cup is the epitome of our Gundog Sport. The kindness and generosity of everyone involved in this event made it a huge success and a pleasure to be part of.
It was fabulous to reaquaint with so many people and to meet like-minded new ones.

One highlight of the weekend was chatting to David Wiggins, the head keeper and discovering that he used to go beating for my grandfather in the early eighties - this shows how small our gundog/shooting community really is! It felt like a full circle moment, as my grandfather was the person who ignited my passion for this wonderful sport.

I would just like to say 'hi and welcome'. My name is Clare Baker, I own and run Arcklebear Gundogs.

I have been a professional gundog trainer for almost 10 years, and have almost 30 years of experience in training and owning gundogs. I train and compete with both Labradors and Spaniels at the highest level.

I have made up four Field Trial Champions - Three Retriever Champions (FTCh Windoogpack Coral, FTCh The Windbreak Whisperer of Arcklebear and FTCh Arcklebear Caribou) and one Cocker Spaniel Champion (FTCh Craiwarn Tinkers Tidy of Arcklebear). I've also had several other winners and award winners.

I am an A Panel Retriever Judge and have judged in the UK and European. I also judge Spaniel field trials and tests as a non-panel judge.

In 2025 I became a Royal Kennel Club Approved Assessor for J Regulations for Retrievers.

During the shooting season when I'm not judging or competing I am beating, picking up and shooting. I am fully immersed in and love the world of Gundogs. They have brought me a lot of opportunities, many good friends and happy memories.

A little fun fact - Arcklebear is and anagram of Clare Baker! Suzie Dent would be proud 🤣
