I would just like to say 'hi and welcome'. My name is Clare Baker, I own and run Arcklebear Gundogs.

I have been a professional gundog trainer for almost 10 years, and have almost 30 years of experience in training and owning gundogs. I train and compete with both Labradors and Spaniels at the highest level.

I have made up four Field Trial Champions - Three Retriever Champions (FTCh Windoogpack Coral, FTCh The Windbreak Whisperer of Arcklebear and FTCh Arcklebear Caribou) and one Cocker Spaniel Champion (FTCh Craiwarn Tinkers Tidy of Arcklebear). I've also had several other winners and award winners.

I am an A Panel Retriever Judge and have judged in the UK and European. I also judge Spaniel field trials and tests as a non-panel judge.

In 2025 I became a Royal Kennel Club Approved Assessor for J Regulations for Retrievers.

During the shooting season when I'm not judging or competing I am beating, picking up and shooting. I am fully immersed in and love the world of Gundogs. They have brought me a lot of opportunities, many good friends and happy memories.

A little fun fact - Arcklebear is and anagram of Clare Baker! Suzie Dent would be proud 🤣

Half my dogs are in season, so I had to resort to taking the crazy spanner out on a Retriever group session. The pocket rocket didn't disgrace me 😊

It's always lovely to receive a compliment.

Ted and Pespi had their annual BVA eye test at the today. It was nice of the staff to comment on what lovely dogs I have and how well they behaved. Both were calm and still, which meant the examination took minutes and made the vets life easy.

Thank you to all the staff involved for a well run service.

Arcklebear set off on tour today!! Everything packed except for the kitchen sink. Myself, my little apprentice and 12 dogs, are off to see friends and do a bit of dog training.

Magic is now 9 months old. I'm so pleased with him. He's such a sweet dog with a fabulous nature.

Today, we should have been running at our last trial of the season. Unfortunately, Storm Chandra put a stop to that with a lot of local flooding.

This would have been Diamond's first trial. She had been on the back burner for a bit due to other priorities.

I'm now looking forward to training, doing a few working tests with her, and then getting her out trialling next season.

Hi Everyone
My phone broke on NY eve and I have only just got it back. I haven't had access to WhatsApp, or social media in that time. I have a lot of messages to reply to. If you have sent a message and dont have a reply from me in the next few days, please drop me another message.
Happy New Year all 😊

Back in October, Tink and I qualified for the 95th Cocker Championship held on 29th and 30th December.

We were drawn number 15, which I thought would suit little Tink. Unfortunately, though, things did not go to plan. Almost straight off lead we were taken across to try behind another dog for a retueve across the burn. After a lot of handling, I managed to get Tink over the burn, but we were then called up.

I am so proud of this little dog and what we have achieved together. I was disappointed not to be able to get to hunt her and show others what a brilliant little dog she is. The failure of her retieve was a weakness in my training and not Tinks fault. She is such a joy to own and work and we will carry on doing what we love. Here's to next season 😊!

I'd also like to thank my very good friend 'Thistle' for coming to support me again.

I would like to say a huge congratulations to Susan Hutson on winning the Championship. What a fantastic achievement.
