We have multiple outdoor play areas and a Lakeside restaurant. Hot and cold drinks, sandwiches and ice creams can be purchased from the Coffee Shop and Ice Cream Parlour. What's on at Ponderosa Zoo?
🎪 Crafty Devilz are joining us on the 7th, 9th, 14th, 16th of April for circus skills, 11am - 3pm!
🎪 Metal detecting session on the beach on the 11th of April, 11am - 3pm!
🎨 Rose's Face Painting are joining us on the 10th and 17th of April in the reptile house!
🦦 Animal talks on daily - Scottish wildcats at 11am, Asian short clawed otters at 12pm and serval at 1pm - come and see some of our most elusive animals be fed by a zookeeper!
🐾 The lemur walkthrough will be open daily 11am - 12pm and 1:30pm - 2:30pm
☕ The coffee shop will be open daily 10am - 5pm

🐸 Happy World Frog Day! 🐸

Today we will be celebrating all things amphibian and their vital role in ecosystems around the world! 🌱 All amphibians, including frogs, are extremely important parts of the ecosystem worldwide, as indicators of environmental health and contributors to human health! 🌿

Did you know that more than one third of frogs are threatened with extinction? 🐸 They face many threats in the wild including habitat loss and habitat destruction which humans are massively contributing towards by water pollution, the introduction of non-native species, climate change, agriculture developments and urbanisation 🐸

✨ What can you do to help? ✨
- Litter picking, to prevent litter from entering rivers, forests and wetlands
- Make a pond in your garden, it doesn't have to be huge
- Try not to use pesticides, fertilisers or w**d killers in your garden at home as most of them are poisonous to amphibians
- Try to use less water
- Reduce, reuse and recycle
- Plant native flowers in your garden

We house golden mantella, blue legged mantella and a tomato frog at Ponderosa Zoo to raise awareness of these incredible animals! 🐸

✨ Happy World Serval Day! ✨

What is World Serval Day? 🐾 It is celebrated every year on the 18th of March and the purpose is to raise awareness and to protect the serval. This species is indigenous to Africa but suffers a huge threat across the world, including here in the UK.

Why was World Serval Day launched? 🐾 It was launched in 2023 by the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary as a part of their campaign. Their goal is to raise awareness of the cruel practice of breeding exotic cat species with domestic cat species in the UK. This practice is fuelling the poor welfare of servals across the world.

Our packs include a fact file, a bookmark, a photo of your chosen animal, one free zoo admission ticket for the adopter and a magnet. Recently, two of our zookeepers went to help with some scrub control in the Lower Aire Valley with the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust 🌿 Scrub is a word that is used when trees invade a grassy area which is known as grassland 🌳 Grasslands are diverse areas for flowers and invertebrates, so it is important to manage these areas and remove scrub to provide a habitat for wildflowers and other types of wildlife 🌻 97% of flower-rich grassland has been lost since WW2 so this activity is extremely important for our wild areas to flourish 🌱

It's enrichment time for our Otters! 🦎 We give all of our animals daily enrichment to make sure they don't get bored! 🥰

It's Dobby's 5th birthday! Dobby is our male Kinkajou and loves fruit, so he will be spoilt rotten today! 🥳 Here's a video of him playing with some enrichment made by his keepers! 😍

Cuteness Alert! 😍 If you've visited us recently, you will have noticed that we have had a new arrival! Arya, one of our female Guianan Squirrel Monkeys has had a baby! 🐾 Baby is now 2 weeks old today and we will be running a competition to name him/her, so keep your eyes peeled on our social media over the next couple of weeks to get involved! 🥰
