*STAFF PETS*

This is 2 year old Orca... Orca had an injury to her hind leg at 1 day old and sadly had to have this amputated. She was hand-reared from then on by our Registered Veterinary Nurse Sarah and has absolutely thrived, becoming yet another foster fail.
She does very well on 3 legs and enjoys long walks and ball chasing the most. She looks deceptively big on pictures but is actually only 15kg and is a staffy/English Bull Terrier cross.

As our cats move into their golden years, arthritis becomes more of a probability. Arthritis is one of the most common causes of chronic pain, and is
estimated to affect 60-90% of older cats.

INTRODUCING CLEO & CLIVE

These clever cats came in to be castrated and safe to say they enjoyed their time at West Vale with lots of cuddles (who could say no to those cute faces 💕)

Cleo & Clive are recovering well and will be back to their playful selves in no time! 😺

Neutering not only helps prevent unwanted litters, but also contributes to a longer, healthier life and can reduce unwanted behaviors like spraying and roaming.

If you have a male cat who hasn’t been neutered yet, feel free to give us a call—we're happy to answer any questions and book you in! 📞💙

How hot is too hot for a dog walk?
Each dog is different, for example Brachycephalic (flat faced), elderly or young, excitable dogs are more at risk of heat stroke.
Below shows a general rule of thumb in terms of care needed when walking your dog in hot weather.

Remember, your dog missing a walk or an event is not the end of the world, if it could save their life.

It’s grass seed season! These barbed seeds easily attach to fur and can burrow into the skin, causing pain and infection.
Watch for These Signs:
Ears: Head shaking, scratching, and discomfort may indicate a seed lodged in the ear. These don’t work their way out and may need removal under sedation or anaesthetic.
Eyes: Redness, weeping, pawing, or squinting can signal a seed under the eyelid. Prompt vet attention is needed to prevent damage.
Feet: Lameness, licking, swelling, or oozing between toes could mean a seed has pierced the skin. These can travel up the leg and may cause infections.
Prevention Tips:
Avoid areas with long grass during summer.
Trim coats, especially around feet, ears, and between toes – particularly important for breeds like spaniels.
After walks, check your dog thoroughly and remove any visible seeds.

We all love a day at the seaside with our four-legged friends, but let’s make sure we’re keeping our beaches safe, clean and fun for everyone. 🏖🐶

✅ Pick up after your dog - and dispose of poo bags properly
✅ Be observant of restrictions - not all beaches allow dogs all year round
✅ Keep your dog under control - use a lead in busy areas or near wildlife
✅ Don’t let your dog approach others without checking first - not every dog or person wants to say hello
✅ Watch out for heatstroke - take breaks for shade and fresh water, and stay out of the intense midday sun
✅ Never let your dog drink seawater - small amounts can cause vomiting or diarrhoea and large amounts can have dangerous consequences

Most importantly - have fun and enjoy the sand and surf! We’d love to see your favourite dog beach snaps below 🐾📷⬇
