I was lucky enough to attend this Zoom seminar with Andrew Hale https://dogcc.org/ who is a dog behaviourist with a background in human psychology. The seminar is part of a series with Andrew being put on by the British Isles Grooming Association https://www.mybiga.org/ The seminar covered how all of us animals (yes, we humans too!) are sensitive and have feelings and needs, for safety, connection, relaxation, etc, and the need to be listened to and have our needs understood and acted upon. Traditionally we've viewed dogs as 'naughty' or disobedient if they don't do what we expect of them. However, this was how we viewed children and minorities too! ("children should be seen and not heard"!) Things have moved on, and we now recognise that dogs (and children) are simply doing their utmost to communicate how they're feeling and what they need, and always trying to do the right thing. This can be taken into account in how we interact with them in a grooming environment to help us understand them and help everyone (dogs and groomers) have a calmer and more relaxed experience.
The plans for the upcoming sessions blew my mind and I'm enormously excited to see what coes next.
Thank you to B**A for putting on this fantastic series of seminars.
