Please meet Poppy. a 1 year old Cockapoo who I met this morning for her first session. Poppy’s owner has mental health issues and would like Poppy to be her assistance dog so that she is comfortable going to the shops or even going out for a coffee.
Firstly, we need to work on Poppy being calm in the home and listening to commands before introducing distractions.
Poppy and her Mum did brilliantly and I’m looking forward to see their progress over the next week. 💖

This afternoon I had the pleasure of having my favourite Cookie Monster for a 1-1 walk and train.
She did brilliantly.
She had her first time on a train this morning so we had a sniffy walk to start with for decompression 💖

Oscar had a 2nd session with me this morning.
We did a quick refresh on the techniques I showed them last week, then back onto counter conditioning and desensitisation when guests leave.
It’s a tricky one as not much is known about his past prior to going to the kill shelter in Romania. We’re making steady progress but everything must be done as Oscar’s own pace so he doesn’t become too stressed and over-stimulated. But I did manage to walk out of the door once and he remained calm.
His mum also mentioned that he doesn’t like to be brushed, so we started desensitising to the brush. Oscar did amazingly 💖

This afternoon I had the pleasure of helping 7 year old Oscar, a Maltese x Bichon Frise (Maltichon) and his new mum.
Oscar was rescued from a kill shelter in Romania and endured a 3 day van journey to a dogs home in Nottingham.
He has now been in his furever home for almost 3 weeks, but he has come with some issues following his ordeal.
Oscar, is afraid of a lot of things: People, especially if they’re on their own. Other dogs. Car journeys and he’s reactive when guests LEAVE the house.
We went through techniques to build his bond and confidence with his Mum which will help them both overcome their fears and anxieties. 💖

Both dogs sharing the same space on the chair, relaxed and calm 🥰
